**JOB SUMMARY - General Nursing and Midwifery**
**General Nursing**:
- **Patient Assessment and Care**:
- Conduct thorough assessments of patients' physical, emotional, and mental health.
- Develop and implement individualized nursing care plans based on assessment findings and physician orders.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring accuracy and adherence to protocols.
- Monitor patients' condition, including vital signs, symptoms, and response to treatment.
- Provide wound care, catheterization, and other specialized nursing interventions as needed.
- **Patient Education and Support**:
- Educate patients and families about their health conditions, treatment options, and self-care techniques.
- Provide emotional support and counseling to patients and families coping with illness, injury, or end-of-life care.
- Teach patients about medication administration, dietary modifications, and lifestyle changes to promote health and prevent complications.
- **Collaboration and Communication**:
- Collaborate with physicians, therapists, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate patient care and treatment plans.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and colleagues to ensure continuity of care and patient safety.
- Participate in interdisciplinary rounds, case conferences, and care team meetings to discuss patient progress and goals.
- **Documentation and Record-Keeping**:
- Maintain accurate and complete medical records, including nursing assessments, care plans, progress notes, and discharge summaries.
- Document all nursing interventions, medications administered, and patient responses in accordance with legal and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure confidentiality and security of patient information in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- **Patient Advocacy**:
- Advocate for patients' rights, preferences, and needs within the healthcare system.
- Serve as a liaison between patients, families, and healthcare providers to address concerns and resolve conflicts.
- Promote a culture of patient-centered care and shared decision-making in the healthcare team.
**Midwifery**:
- **Antenatal Care**:
- Provide comprehensive prenatal care to pregnant women, including physical examinations, prenatal screenings, and health assessments.
- Educate expectant mothers about pregnancy nutrition, fetal development, childbirth preparation, and prenatal care recommendations.
- Monitor maternal and fetal well-being throughout pregnancy, including blood pressure, weight gain, fetal growth, and fetal movement.
- **Intrapartum Care**:
- Assist women during labor and childbirth, providing emotional support, comfort measures, and pain management techniques.
- Monitor maternal and fetal status during labor, including cervical dilation, fetal heart rate, and contractions.
- Facilitate the birthing process, including coaching breathing techniques, positioning, and assisting with delivery.
- **Postpartum Care**:
- Provide postpartum care to mothers and newborns, including breastfeeding support, newborn care education, and assessment of maternal recovery.
- Monitor for postpartum complications, such as hemorrhage, infection, and breastfeeding difficulties, and intervene as necessary.
- Assess maternal mental health and provide support for postpartum depression and anxiety.
- **Family Planning and Reproductive Health**:
- Offer family planning counseling and contraceptive services to women and couples, including contraceptive education and method selection.
- Provide preconception counseling and support for women planning pregnancy, including optimizing health and managing risk factors.
- Screen for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and provide counseling and treatment as needed.
- **Community Outreach and Education**:
- Engage in community outreach programs to promote maternal and child health, including prenatal education, breastfeeding support groups, and childbirth classes.
- Provide reproductive health education and resources to underserved populations, including adolescents, immigrants, and low-income families.
