On a typical day at Pepper, the editor will

1. Edit and proofread two to three documents following the client’s guidelines to the highest standards of quality. Major Industries - BFSI.
3. Provide comprehensive feedback and suggestions to writers with a strong focus on timelines and quality.
5. Ensure the content is plagiarism-free by running it through premium plagiarism detection software
6. Identify and flag articles that do not meet Pepper’s quality standards
7. Actively engage in quality assurance and performance review processes

Work hours: Flexible during the day

1. Have an excellent command of the English language and a sharp eye for detail
2. Have at least 2 years of experience in content editing and proofreading documents from a variety of industries and domains
3. Have thorough knowledge of copy editing and proofreading best practices
4. Have strong research and organizational skills
5. Be able to take up challenging and time-sensitive editorial tasks and deliver the same without compromising on quality
6. Be willing to learn independently and improve upon their skills by attending regular training workshops and acting upon feedback
7. Be available to work for 5-8 hours a day for 3 to 7 days a week on a contractual basis from any remote location

Scope of Editing at Pepper Content
Editing
1) Correcting all language
- and grammar-related issues, including
a. errors in punctuation and spelling
b. sentence fragments and incorrect sentence structures
c. UK/US English spelling and punctuation conventions

2) Formatting the article to ensure
a. consistency of heading levels and bulleted lists
b. consistency of style guidelines, casing, and typeface

3) Improving clarity and coherence in every assignment
a. correcting sentences that are wordy, too lengthy, and unnecessarily descriptive.
b. correcting facts and figures that are inconsistent throughout the article

4) Refining the word choice and sentence structure in every article
a) improving the word choice to ensure even tonality and style
b) editing sentences to ensure they are clear, simple, and straightforward
c) removing all empty, redundant, and irrelevant phrases and sentences

5) Restructuring paragraphs to ensure they are concise and that the information flows well
a) restructuring paragraphs to ensure each sentence leads naturally to the next
b) establishing a clear connection between paragraphs and the subheadings

Brief adherence and factual accuracy
1) Checking the article against the creative brief for a particular project type
a. ensuring each major section is included
b. checking to see if general talking points within those sections are addressed

2) Verifying, correcting, or removing irrelevant and incorrect information
a. verifying that the information in the article is relevant and accurate - each piece of factual information must be consistent with reliable, credible sources.
b. correcting any information that is incorrect but relevant
c. removing any information that is incorrect and irrelevant

3) Adding references (URLs) of credible sources to establish the veracity
a. Inserting references and citations for factual information
b. Providing reference links (URLs) in the form of comments against all instances of factual information.
c. Identify the most appropriate research sources for factual information
d. Add the URLs for those references against each instance of factual information

Providing feedback and identifying sub-par writing
1. Identifying articles that are sub-par or incomplete
a. If the text is disjointed, meaningless, and exaggerated, or if the information in multiple sections is irrelevant.
b. Large sections of the article are plagiarised, paraphrased, or spun
c. The information in multiple sections is entirely irrelevant or incorrect

2. Providing feedback and suggestions through comments in such documents
a. to include subheadings and sub-sections that are missing
b. to improve poorly framed sections and paragraphs
c. to replace plagiarised sections with original content
d. to provide substantial information, where missing, under relevant subheadings

Editors would be expected to regularly attend briefing, training, and feedback meetings with their team leaders and Managing Editors at Pepper.
