**Job Description: Professor - Pharmacognosy**
**Job Summary**:
The Professor in Pharmacognosy will be a senior academic leader responsible for advancing the field of pharmacognosy through teaching, research, and service. This individual will contribute to the development and delivery of cutting-edge education in the areas of natural products, medicinal plants, phytochemistry, and herbal therapeutics. As a leader in the department, the professor will mentor junior faculty and researchers, engage in high-impact research, and build collaborations within and outside the academic community.
**Key Responsibilities**:
**1. Teaching & Curriculum Leadership**:
- Mentor and guide students at undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate levels, fostering their academic and professional growth.
- Supervise and support graduate students in research projects, theses, and dissertations, ensuring the development of high-quality research.
- Promote innovation in teaching methodologies and the use of modern technologies to enhance learning experiences.
**2. Research Excellence**:
- Lead and conduct original, high-impact research in pharmacognosy, focusing on natural products, medicinal plants, and the pharmacological and therapeutic potential of bioactive compounds.
- Publish research findings in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals and present research at national and international conferences.
- Secure external funding and grants to support research initiatives and promote research collaborations across disciplines.
- Guide and supervise research teams, including junior faculty, postdoctoral researchers, and graduate students.
**3. Service and Academic Leadership**:
- Contribute to the academic leadership of the department, including strategic planning, curriculum development, and fostering a collaborative academic environment.
- Serve on key departmental, faculty, and institutional committees, contributing to decision-making processes related to academic policies, student affairs, and institutional initiatives.
- Actively participate in accreditation processes and ensure that departmental programs meet the highest academic standards.
- Represent the department and institution at national and international academic and professional forums.
**4. Professional Development and Outreach**:
- Engage in continuous professional development to stay at the forefront of developments in pharmacognosy, medicinal chemistry, and natural product research.
- Foster collaborations with industry, research institutions, and government agencies to promote knowledge exchange and advance pharmacognosy research.
- Lead or participate in public outreach programs, workshops, and professional associations to raise awareness of pharmacognosy and natural products in healthcare.
**Education**:
- Ph.D. in Pharmacognosy.
- A strong research background in pharmacognosy or natural product drug discovery, preferably with a focus on medicinal plants, phytochemistry, or herbal medicine.
**Experience**:
- At least 10+ years of academic experience, including a successful track record of teaching and mentoring at the university level.
- A proven record of high-impact research with numerous publications in peer-reviewed journals.
- Demonstrated success in obtaining external research funding (e.g., from governmental or private agencies).
- Experience in academic leadership, such as serving on committees, leading research teams, or managing large-scale research projects.
**Skills and Competencies**:
- In-depth knowledge of pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, bioactivity screening, and the pharmacological properties of natural products.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with experience in mentoring and supporting junior faculty and students.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral, with the ability to publish in high-impact journals and present research at conferences.
- Proven ability to collaborate across disciplines and build partnerships with industry, academia, and governmental bodies.
