Job Description

Job Title: Lead Test Engineer

Job Summary

The Lead Test Engineer is pivotal in ensuring the quality and reliability of software systems through the development and execution of comprehensive testing strategies. This role involves overseeing the creation and execution of test plans, leading a team of test engineers, and managing all aspects of the testing process. The Lead Test Engineer will assess the quality of specifications and technical design documents to provide timely, relevant, and actionable feedback. They will also handle defect management, report on progress, and secure sign-offs for quality management and testing.

Responsibilities

Test Strategy & Planning: Develop and implement test strategies and plans that align with project requirements. Define the scope of testing, objectives, and metrics to ensure thorough coverage and quality. Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of test engineers, ensuring effective task assignment, skill development, and motivation. Conduct training to address any identified gaps in technical or soft skills. Defect Management: Oversee defect management processes, including identifying, tracking, and reporting defects. Ensure timely resolution and retesting of issues. Documentation: Create and maintain detailed testing documentation, including test plans, test cases, test scripts, and test data. Review and validate test documentation created by the team. Communication: Act as the primary liaison between development teams and testers. Organize and lead status meetings, provide updates to clients, and address any issues or concerns promptly. Reporting: Prepare and present comprehensive test reports, including test results, case coverage, defect status, and performance baselines. Update metrics dashboards and provide regular status reports to stakeholders. Process Improvement: Document, implement, and enforce testing processes in line with organizational standards. Continuously evaluate and improve testing procedures and practices. Automation: Develop and implement automated testing solutions using Python and related frameworks. Ensure the automation suite is efficient, maintainable, and integrates seamlessly with the CI/CD pipeline. Resource Management: Estimate and secure the necessary resources, time, and budget for testing activities. Ensure that hardware and software requirements for the test setup are met. Agile Practices: Engage in agile processes, including Scrum cadences and sprint planning. Use tools such as Azure DevOps or JIRA for tracking and managing testing activities.

Basic Understanding

Excel and Visualization Tools: Experience with data visualization tools such as PowerBI or Tableau. Test Automation Frameworks: Familiarity with test automation frameworks in Python and PySpark. Data Processing: Understanding of batch and real-time data processing. Agile Process: Working knowledge of Agile methodologies, including Scrum, and experience with Agile tools like Azure DevOps or JIRA.

Strong In/Should Have

Requirements Analysis: Ability to analyze project requirements to determine the scope and effort required for testing. Cloud-Based Frameworks: Experience with cloud-based frameworks and platforms, including Azure, AWS, or GCP, along with Python, SQL, and PySpark. Resource Estimation: Skill in estimating time, resources, and budget for testing, and obtaining management support. Team Building: Experience in organizing testing teams, defining roles, and ensuring team members have appropriate workloads. Test Planning: Development of detailed test plans, including risk mitigation and stakeholder support. Hardware and Software Setup: Arranging and managing hardware and software requirements for test environments. Documentation and Standards: Ensuring comprehensive documentation and adherence to organizational testing standards. Client Communication: Strong communication skills for regular client interactions and status updates. Issue Escalation: Ability to escalate issues related to project requirements to project managers or senior test managers. Metrics & Reporting: Preparing and updating metrics dashboards and reports on testing activities.

Additional Skills

Automation Development: Proficiency in building automated testing solutions using Python and integrating them with CI/CD pipelines. Performance Management: Capability to track and report on performance baselines and testing results. Client Interaction: Effective communication with clients, including discussing weekly status and addressing any concerns.

Qualifications

Experience: Proven experience as a Lead Test Engineer or in a similar role, with a strong track record of leading testing efforts and teams. Technical Skills: Extensive experience with test automation, cloud-based frameworks, and data processing technologies. Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
