Job Description:
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Principal Database Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role involves designing, implementing, and managing database systems on various platforms including Azure SQL Server, Cosmos DB, SQL Server VMs, Windows Cluster 2022/2019, and Databricks. The ideal candidate will possess deep technical expertise, strong leadership abilities, and a passion for innovation in database engineering and big data processing.
Key Responsibilities :
Database Design & Implementation:
Design, develop, and implement database solutions on Azure SQL Server, Cosmos DB, SQL Server VMs, Windows Cluster 2022/2019/2017, and Databricks.
Ensure high availability, scalability, and reliability of database systems.
Optimize database performance, including query optimization and index tuning.
Database Administration:
Manage database security, backups, and disaster recovery plans.
Perform regular maintenance tasks such as database upgrades, patching, and troubleshooting.
Monitor database performance and implement improvements as needed.
Technical Leadership:
Lead and mentor a team of database engineers and administrators.
Provide technical guidance and best practices for database design and development.
Stay current with emerging database and big data technologies and assess their applicability to our environment.
Data Processing:
Implement and manage data processing workflows using Databricks.
Develop and maintain ETL processes and data pipelines.
Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to ensure data quality and availability.
Collaboration & Support:
Work closely with software developers, system administrators, and other IT staff to support database needs.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement database solutions that meet business requirements.
Provide 24/7 support for critical database systems as needed.
Documentation & Reporting:
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for database systems and processes.
Generate regular reports on database performance, health, and usage metrics.
Present findings and recommendations to senior management and stakeholders.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in database engineering and administration.
Proven experience with Azure SQL Server, Cosmos DB, SQL Server VMs, Windows Cluster 2019, and Data bricks.
Strong background in database performance tuning, high availability, and disaster recovery.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in SQL, T-SQL, and database management tools.
Experience with cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure.
Knowledge of Databricks and big data processing frameworks.
Familiarity with ETL processes and data pipeline development.
Knowledge of database security practices and compliance requirements.
Familiarity with Windows Server administration and clustering technologies.
Soft Skills:
Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
