Role Summary WSP is currently seeking a Structural Engineer with experience in Water retaining structures.
The successful candidate will be experienced in detailed design of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, with specific experience in pipeline, pump station and treatment plants.
The candidate shall be responsible for the development and execution of structural designs from concept design to detail design, ensuring high technical standards including production and review of high-quality technical documentation.
A Team player and willing to work collaboratively with a motivated and highly successful team in Australia.
Responsibilities Contribute to the technical quality of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
Structural design development and delivery from concept design to detailed design and ensure work input is of a technically good standard.
Ensure designs are compliant with Australian Standards.
Capable of multi-tasking and managing multiple projects with the ability to accurately predict the time required to fulfil the individual scope of works required.
Ensuring that quality assurance (QA) procedures are implemented and maintained, becoming a champion of QA to uphold a high level of quality Ensure that Health & Safety is embedded into all work practices in line with company policies, be vigilant in regard to health and safety even when outside of work hours.
Support the WSP approach to sustainability, future ready and encouraging design teams in a forward-thinking manner to Adopt alternate design technologies to encourage a better footprint for the environment.
Coordinate with a multi-disciplinary project team.
Communicate with internal peers and project team and be prepared to answer questions regarding deliverables.
Identify improvements (where possible) to enhance WSP service to clients.
Client / External focus Maintain strong colleague relationships and contribute to the teams’ performance of client satisfaction Contribute to knowledge sharing in internal and external forums Remain up to date with market and competitor knowledge.
People Be self-motivated to take on a responsible role in project work with a clear focus on timeliness, quality, and technical excellence.
Be experienced in mentoring and directing less experienced Civil Engineers.
Should be a good team player.
Create and support innovation Work across cultures (e.g., international and/or multi-disciplinary projects), embracing diverse points of view.
Business Focus Proactively influences Health and Safety (Safety in Design) Deliver successful commercial performance by clearly understanding and monitoring the area of work and ensure agreed targets are met Be responsible for the quality of technical outputs to WSP standards including any specific AU client standards Champion and mentor others in use of agreed systems and processes Explore ways to add value and improve personal and team performance Manage opportunities, risks and project changes / variations so that these deliver advantage to the business.
Key Competencies / Skills / Qualifications Should have 6+ years’ experience in water Structural Should have Degree in Civil/Structural or relevant field Willing to gain Chartership status in Australia Australian design experience, ideally in a consultancy environment and can work independently Design experience in concrete and steel structures Experience in detailed design of water and wastewater infrastructure projects, with specific experience in pipeline, pump station design and treatment plants.
Preference for water retaining structures experience.
Good knowledge of relevant industry related Australian Standards and WSAA codes would be advantageous.
Understanding of related safety in design practices and processes.
Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively.
The ability to submit technical reports to a high standard requiring minimal correction; and provide final review of reports.
Experience in Design and Construction projects Excellent written and verbal communication skills, in English.
Software requirements: Must be experienced in using PDF Xchange or Bluebeam, Microsoft Office Package Must have experience in one of these software packages: Strand7, Space Gass, ROBOT, Microstran Preferred experience, but not essential: Hilti Profis Engineering, Rapt, INDUCTA, NAVISWORKS, Math CAD, Structural Toolkit, RAM Connections.
