The Ghost Reader will be responsible for thoroughly reading and evaluating manuscripts or completed books and providing detailed, insightful, and unbiased reviews. This role requires a strong command of language, exceptional analytical skills, and the ability to identify factual, logical, and structural issues within a manuscript. The Ghost Reader ensures that all content is accurate, well-structured, readable, and aligned with the book’s purpose and audience. Read full manuscripts, drafts, or print-ready books with close attention to detail. Verify factual information, dates, statistics, historical references, and claims. Use fact-checking tools, databases, and research sources (e.g., Google Scholar, credible news archives). Content Quality Assessment Ensure adherence to writing guidelines, genre expectations, and brand voice. Work closely with authors, editors, and the creative team to provide structured feedback. Participate in review discussions and recommend edits or enhancements. Bachelor's degree in English, Literature, Journalism, Communications, or related field. Master’s degree preferred but not mandatory. Experience ~2+ years of experience in book reviewing, editing, proofreading, or publishing. ~ Freelance manuscript evaluation or editorial experience is an added advantage. Strong command of English grammar, style, and narrative structure. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Google Docs, Grammarly and PDF editing tools. Understanding of various genres: fiction, non-fiction, biographies, self-help, business, etc. Ability to analyse tone, pacing, storytelling, and reader engagement. Knowledge of AI-assisted proofreading or editing tools.
