Republic Media Network is seeking a seasoned technology leader to join India’s leading news organization as AGM – Technology . This role demands an expert with a strong background in building and scaling digital technology solutions for news and video-led digital products. The ideal candidate will combine technical backed and front-end tech excellence with leadership capabilities to drive innovation, ensure operational efficiency, and support the fast-paced demands of a content-driven newsroom.
As a key player in our leadership team, you will oversee the technological infrastructure required to deliver a seamless digital experience for millions of viewers. Your ability to scale operations based on technological robustness and solidity, combined with strong collaboration with total control of stability of servers, SEO code requirements and content teams, will be pivotal.
Overall Responsibilities
Technology Leadership : Define and implement a strategic technology roadmap that supports the unique demands of a news and video-led operation.
Scaling Operations : Design and manage scalable systems that ensure stable and optimal performance and reliability for high-traffic content platforms.
Team Collaboration : Work closely with SEO and content teams to align technology solutions with editorial and distribution goals.
Video-Centric Solutions : Lead the development and optimization of video delivery frameworks to ensure seamless streaming and user experiences.
System Infrastructure : Oversee the management and optimization of Google Cloud Platform (GCP) servers, ensuring high availability and cost efficiency.
Frontend and Backend Development: Drive innovation using Node.js and SvelteKit and Next.js .
Database & Caching : Ensure the efficient performance of MongoDB databases and implement Redis Cache for enhanced frontend performance.
Media Management : Deep domain knowledge of ImageKit and Google CDN, ensuring efficient content delivery.
SEO Optimization : Partner with SEO teams to implement technologies that enhance discoverability and drive audience engagement with stability.
Data Governance & Security : Implement robust cybersecurity frameworks and maintain compliance with the highest security and regulatory standards.
Project Leadership : Manage critical technology projects with a focus on timely delivery and maintaining quality standards.
Mandatory Qualification, Skills & Experience
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 7 years in web development, with at least 3+ years in a managerial role.
Proven experience in managing and scaling high-traBic news or media websites.
Strong background in front-end and back-end development (e.g., HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript, React, Node.js, PHP, Python, Ruby on Rails, etc.).
Experience with cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and DevOps practices.
Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) such as WordPress, Drupal, or custom-built solutions.
Solid understanding of performance optimization techniques, caching, CDN, and website security best practices.
Leadership Skills: Ability to lead, inspire, and manage a team of developers.
Problem Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Agile Methodology: Experience working in agile environments, with an understanding of Scrum or Kanban methodologies.
Project Management: Familiarity with project management tools (e.g., Jira, Trello, Asana).
Attention to Detail: A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail in all aspects of web development.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in the news/media industry and understanding of the challenges faced by digital news platforms.
Experience with microservices architecture, containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and CI/CD pipelines.
Knowledge of analytics tools (Google Analytics, Hotjar, etc.) and performance monitoring solutions (New Relic, etc.)

System Architecture & Platform Management:
Oversee the architecture and design of the website, ensuring it is scalable, secure, and capable of handling high traBic volumes typical of news sites.
Design and implement a content management system (CMS) that supports fast- paced news publishing and integrates seamlessly with editorial workflows.
Manage the technical stack for front-end, back-end, and database systems, ensuring optimal performance and reliability.
Coordinate integrations with third-party tools, APIs, and content distribution networks (CDNs) to improve the user experience and site performance.
Development & Code Quality:
Ensure the development of clean, maintainable, and high-quality code.
Define coding standards and practices, ensuring the use of modern web technologies (e.g., React, Node.js, PHP, Python)
Review and approve technical designs, code reviews, and deployment processes.
Foster an agile development environment, encouraging rapid iterations and improvements in collaboration with product and editorial teams.
Performance Optimization & Scalability:
Monitor website performance and optimize for load speed, reliability, and user experience, particularly during high-traBic events (e.g., breaking news, live events).
Implement best practices for SEO, mobile-first design, and responsive web applications.
Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, including site downtimes, slow loading times, and other performance-related challenges.
Security & Compliance:
Ensure the website and backend systems are secure, protecting against data breaches, hacking attempts, and other cyber threats.
Oversee compliance with relevant laws and regulations, including GDPR, CCPA, and accessibility standards (WCAG).
Implement robust backup and disaster recovery plans to mitigate downtime and ensure data loss.
Team Management & Collaboration:
Manage a team of developers, technical architects, and engineers, providing guidance, training, and mentorship to enhance their skills and productivity.
Foster a collaborative environment, working closely with editorial, product, marketing, and design teams to align technical eBorts with business goals.
Coordinate with project managers to ensure that projects are completed on time and within scope.
Innovation & Continuous Improvement:
Drive innovation in the news platform, suggesting and implementing new features to enhance the user experience, machine learning recommendations, live feeds, personalized news, etc.
