Role Summary
For this Mumbai-based role, we are seeking a dynamic, entrepreneurial candidate to lead UKIBC’s Financial and Professional Services sector group, as part of our Membership and Advocacy team in India. As a policy specialist, the successful candidate with help the UKIBC deepen its policy advocacy engagement with sectoral regulators, line ministries, and influencers, coordinating with leading companies from UKIBC’s membership and with colleagues in Delhi and the UK. The job-holder will be responsible for monitoring policy and regulatory developments, preparing well-drafted policy submissions and briefings, ideate our thought-leadership agenda, and provide member services and account management support.
In coordination with relevant colleagues, the successful candidate may also provide support to UKIBC’s representation Mumbai/Maharashtra by helping map and liaise with key stakeholders in the state. The role would require close coordination with colleagues based across the two geographies of operations – India and the UK.
Role & Responsibilities
The essential job responsibilities include:
- Horizon scanning and monitoring of emerging sectoral regulations and policies that would impact financial services firms operating in India, with specific focus on banking and insurance.
- Coordinate with and support UKIBC members in the financial services sector to understand their priorities and policy support required.
- Coordinate with and support legal services and consulting firms in the UKIBC membership to explore partnership opportunities that enhance the delivery of our advocacy content and activities.
- Design and implement policy advocacy plan/activities to address sectoral issues as well events and thought-leadership activities, in consultation with Advocacy Director and relevant sector specialists.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with key interlocutors such as RBI, SEBI, creating opportunities to engage senior officials for UKIBC leadership and relevant members.
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with appropriate reps in British Deputy High Commission, the City of London’s representative in Mumbai, and other relevant organisations on financial services.
- Provide administrative and liaison support for UKIBC’s financial and professional services firms and other key accounts based in Mumbai.
- Support wider events and government engagements in Maharashtra for example, during visits and delegations etc. as well as effective mapping of key influencers and stakeholders in the state.
- Any other tasks/activities as assigned on the job.
Work Experience & Skills:
- Min. experience of 7-9 years in government relations/public policy/public affairs
- Specific knowledge and experience in the financial services sector (ex: banking, insurance, digital payments etc.) essential
- Experience and understanding of consulting and legal services desirable
- Existing relationships with key government departments and regulators related to the role will be ideal or, experience building close and trusted relationships
- Experience with account management and/or engaging with corporate executives
- Exposure to international/multi-cultural work environment desirable
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills that effectively conveys key messages to target audiences in a compelling and credible manner.
- Ability to multi-task and collaborate internally on organisational objectives.
- Ability to work on tight deadlines with strong attention to detail.
Education: Minimum of Bachelor’s degree in economics, public policy or related areas from a well-recognised institution.
Office Location: Mumbai, (with travel to Delhi as needed).
