We are seeking a Senior Backend Engineer specializing in Video to join our client's dynamic team in Bangalore. You will leverage your expertise in front-end technologies and video streaming to create exceptional user experiences.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead complex backend projects that involve multiple engineers, focusing on performance improvements and migrations.
  • Work with tools like FFmpeg, GStreamer, or similar to manage various codecs (H.264, H.265, VP9, AV1) and formats (MP4, WebM, HLS, DASH).
  • Design and implement scalable backend solutions for video processing features, including encoding, transcoding, and adaptive streaming, while ensuring reliability, maintainability, and performance.
  • Enhance video storage, retrieval, and streaming performance through the use of CDNs, caching, and adaptive bitrate streaming.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including Product and QA, to refine requirements, design solutions, and deliver impactful features.
  • Serve as a technical leader within the team, making thoughtful architectural and design decisions that balance immediate needs with long-term scalability and maintainability.
  • Mentor junior engineers by providing code reviews, design feedback, and technical guidance, fostering a culture of learning and growth within the team.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve production issues, conduct root cause analysis, and implement long-term solutions to enhance system reliability and customer satisfaction.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science from a top-tier institution (IITs, NITs, BITs, or equivalent).
  • Over 7 years of backend software development experience, with a strong emphasis on distributed systems and video processing.
  • Proficient in backend technologies such as Python, Java, or Go, with experience in building scalable, high-performance systems.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with video technologies, including:
  • - Video codecs (H.264, H.265, VP9, AV1) and compression techniques
  • - FFmpeg, GStreamer, or similar multimedia frameworks
  • - Streaming protocols (HLS, DASH, RTMP, WebRTC)
  • - Cloud media services (AWS Media Services, Azure Media Services, GCP Transcoder API)
  • A proven track record of serving as a tech lead and managing complex initiatives within the team.
  • In-depth understanding of distributed systems, microservices architecture, and API design.
  • Strong experience in performance optimization, debugging, and scaling complex applications.
  • Experience in mentoring junior engineers and contributing to the technical growth of the team.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to handle ambiguous requirements to deliver effective solutions.
  • Strong communication skills, enabling effective collaboration with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of observability, monitoring, and operational excellence.
  • Experience with real-time video streaming technologies such as WebRTC and RTMP.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP, as well as experience with distributed databases, caching systems, and message queues.
  • Experience with containerization and orchestration tools, including Kubernetes and Docker.
  • Understanding of DRM, video watermarking, and security best practices.
  • Contributions to open-source multimedia projects, such as FFmpeg and GStreamer.
