The Senior Principal Engineer (SPE) role is pivotal in achieving this vision, ensuring the highest standards of product and engineering excellence within our streams. By fostering a high-performance technical culture, the SPE helps us create innovative solutions that make a difference.

The SPE collaborates closely with the stream leadership team, including the Head of Engineering, Senior Engineering Managers, Architects, and other specialist leaders. They provide technical guidance and support, unlocking complex technical problems and offering course correction when needed. The SPE also leads small projects, solving specific challenges and prototyping new technical approaches, ensuring our engineering practices remain at the forefront of the industry.

As the senior-most technical leader in each of Serko's Engineering streams, the SPE is a key member of the stream leadership team. They ensure the highest standards of product and engineering practices, foster a high-performance technical culture, and act as the most senior technical advocate within the stream. The SPE is responsible for the technical output of the stream, enabling teams to deliver exceptional solutions that meet our business goals.

Critical Tasks

Here’s how you’ll get to make that happen:

  • Responsible for embedding the relevant practices within teams in the stream
  • Unblock team co-ordination issues within and across streams
  • Work with Product Managers to ensure value is delivered to customers in the most pragmatic and effective way possible
  • May co-ordinate discrete and specific technical projects
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define initiative requirements, objectives and timelines
  • Conduct research and analysis to identify innovative solutions and best practices
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to engineers and other team members
  • Evaluate and optimize existing systems and processes for performance, reliability and scalability
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, emerging technologies and best practices
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality, efficiency and customer satisfaction
  • Communicate effectively with stakeholders to gather requirements, provide updates and solicit feedback.

Experience & Capabilities

You will contribute through your expertise in:

  • Strong proficiency in stream-specific technologies, tool and programming languages
  • Demonstrated expertise in specific areas of specialization related to the stream
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to lead teams through complex changes to engineering related areas, and maintain alignment across Product and Technology teams
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
