Job Description:


VDI L3 Support Engineer Role Overview: The VDI L3 Support Engineer will be responsible for managing, maintaining, and troubleshooting the Wintel, Citrix, and Azure VDI environments. This role includes deploying, configuring, monitoring, and supporting Terminal Services, Citrix MPS/XenApp Architecture, NetScaler, and Azure VDI Services. The engineer will ensure the environments are optimized, secure, and aligned with business needs.

Key Responsibilities:Wintel Citrix Services - Microsoft Terminal Services:

  • Deploying Terminal Services.
  • Configuring Timeouts and Connection Manager.
  • Assigning permissions on the RDP protocol.
  • Monitoring and maintaining the existing TS environment.
  • Monitoring Terminal Service Sessions.
  • Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting TS License Server.
  • Managing and monitoring Microsoft TS Licenses.
  • Submitting TS License usage reports.

Citrix MPS/XenApp Architecture:

  • Designing and planning Farm Architecture.
  • Deciding which applications to publish via Citrix.
  • Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting Citrix License Server.
  • Managing and monitoring Citrix Licenses.
  • Submitting Citrix License Utilization Reports.

Citrix Server Build:

  • Standardizing Server Builds using OS Images.
  • Installing Citrix XenApp/Web Interface.
  • Applying service packs, hot fixes, and patches to Citrix Servers.
  • Configuring server-specific settings (like ICA Browser).
  • Ensuring all servers are identically built on OS & Citrix front.

Application Publishing:

  • Publishing new applications through Citrix XenApp.
  • Managing published applications.
  • Assigning permissions to applications as per requirements.
  • Troubleshooting published applications.
  • Performance tuning of published applications.
  • Designing and implementing efficient Application Vs. Server mapping.
  • Creating, maintaining, and troubleshooting Isolation Environments.

Citrix Support:

  • Installing XenApp Administration Tools.
  • Monitoring and managing user status through Citrix XenApp Console.
  • Configuring and maintaining Citrix Load balancing and Resource Manager environment.
  • Keeping the Citrix environment contemporary based on business requirements and technology obsolescence.
  • Ownership of Citrix build and software library.
  • Central management of upgrade cycles and coordination of Citrix upgrades.
  • Managing Citrix infrastructure components, configuration, and testing.
  • Setting up and managing development/proof of concept lab environments.
  • Enabling Change Requests for changes to core infrastructure components.
  • Monitoring and managing convergence with other projects, services, and technologies.
  • Quality assurance and active involvement in high-impact incidents.
  • Managing and maintaining knowledge repository.

NetScaler Support:

  • Configuring primary and secondary Standby NetScaler.
  • Configuring new load balancing sites on NetScaler.
  • Troubleshooting NetScaler issues related to load balancing and failover.
  • Re-installing and configuring certs on NetScaler.
  • Upgrading the code and applying service packs, hot fixes, and patches to NetScaler Servers.
  • Monitoring the NetScaler Appliance and coordinating with the vendor for issues.
  • Establishing new policies and processes.
  • Participating in DR testing and working with BRMs/application on external-facing application testing/implementation.
  • Working with the security team to update necessary FW rules.

Wintel - Azure VDI Services:

  • Architecture design and planning.
  • Deciding which applications to publish via VDI.
  • Installing, configuring, and troubleshooting VDI Connectivity.
  • Managing and monitoring VDI Usage.

VDI Build:

  • Standardizing VDI OS Images.
  • Applying hot fixes, patches, and application installations.
  • Configuring server-specific settings (like ICA Browser).
  • Ensuring all VDIs are identically built.

VDI Support:

  • Installing and administering VDI.
  • Monitoring and managing user status through Azure Portal.
  • Configuring and maintaining load and resource management.
  • Ownership of VDI build and software library.
  • Managing development and proof of concept lab environments.
  • Monitoring and managing convergence with other services.
  • Quality assurance and involvement in high-impact incidents.
  • Managing and maintaining knowledge repository.
  • Continuous improvement of VDI infrastructure.
  • VDI User Administration tasks (log off users, reset users).
  • VDI User account administration and rights management.
  • Managing FsLogix Profile and resets.
  • Producing and maintaining technical documentation.
  • Providing technical documentation to IT help desk.
  • Managing storage account disk quotas on VDI.
  • Configuring computer and user policies.
  • Fixing corrupt profiles.
  • Coordinating with application support providers and related third parties.
  • Complying with business continuity management model and procedures.
  • Setting up and decommissioning test environments.
  • Creating VDI policies.
  • Qualifications: Proven experience in managing and supporting Wintel, Citrix, and Azure VDI environments.
  • Strong knowledge of Terminal Services, Citrix MPS/XenApp Architecture, and NetScaler.
  • Experience in deploying, configuring, and troubleshooting VDI connectivity and usage.
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and projects.
  • Preferred Skills: Certifications in Citrix, Microsoft, and Azure.
  • Experience with FsLogix Profile management.
  • Knowledge of business continuity management models and procedures.
