Job Objective
To provide strategic leadership and operational oversight for the Design Department, ensuring innovative, high-quality product delivery that aligns with the organization’s vision and goals. This role demands expertise in design, talent management, stakeholder engagement, and process optimization, driving excellence in design outcomes while representing the department both internally and externally.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Responsibilities:
• Provide thought leadership to the Design Department, ensuring accuracy, accountability, and efficiency in design deliveries.
• Innovate and implement new work practices to enhance product development and delivery.
• Establish long-term departmental goals in collaboration with the leadership team.
• Develop a robust network of external consultants and advisors for both short-term and long-term projects.
• Advise HR on talent acquisition, improvement, and retention strategies, overseeing execution roadmaps.
• Drive outcome-based innovation through creative design thinking.
Operational Responsibilities:
• Set benchmarks for design excellence, aligned with international standards.
• Collaborate with the leadership team to resolve major design challenges and provide strategic direction for projects.
• Oversee the implementation of best practices within the Design Department and across other departments.
• Mediate on design-related deviations affecting budgets and present strategic solutions for long-term projects.
• Identify and onboard strategic consultant partners for future engagements.
• Review and approve all mandates, key design reports, and tender deviations after thorough optimization assessments.
• Participate in business development efforts, addressing technical and product-related queries for prospective clients.
• Conduct annual reviews of consultants, creating a feedback loop for continuous improvement.
• Ensure process audits and corrective actions are carried out by vertical heads.
• Conduct site visits at critical milestones to ensure design intent is realized, addressing any deviations promptly.
Financial Responsibilities:
• Review and finalize product budgets at the concept stage.
• Oversee department budgets and mandates in collaboration with the leadership team.
• Monitor long-term financial strategies for the department.
People Management Responsibilities:
• Oversee recruitment, focusing on cultural fit and departmental alignment.
• Supervise the implementation of talent management programs by vertical heads.
• Conduct performance evaluations (PMS) for vertical heads.
• Develop and implement learning and development (L&D) programs in collaboration with HR.
• Introduce innovative learning initiatives to upskill team members and incentivize continuous improvement.

Execution Excellence:
• KPI: % Deviation of Mandate vs. Estimated Actual Cost (EAC).
• KPI: Consistency and accuracy in maintaining feedback and improvement logs.
• KPI: % Rework or variation orders (VOs) to vendors.
Quality Control:
• KPI: Number of quality issues raised by leadership.
• KPI: Time taken to resolve process or product quality concerns.
Innovation:
• KPI: Successful prediction and realization of new initiative efficacy.
People Management:
• KPI: Employee retention and engagement metrics.
• KPI: Effectiveness of L&D and talent management strategies.

Qualifications and Experience:
Education:
• Master’s degree in Architecture or a core design discipline.
• Additional certifications such as LEED, PMI, AACE, or RICS are advantageous.
Experience:
• 15–20 years of experience in design leadership, including delivery of 5–10 large-scale projects (minimum of 50 million square feet).
• Substantial international exposure with a proven track record of delivering innovative design solutions.
