Roles and ResponsibilitiesUnderstand the Health, Safety, Environmental Protection and Quality Policy and the responsibilities under the Environmental Management System (EMS). In keeping with this and other compliance policiesReport any environmental noncompliance and/or concern to the manager or members either of the senior management team (including the highest level of management) directly or through the open reporting system as per Management System guidelinesGuide, advise, and monitor vessel operations; also assists crew performing vessel maintenanceResearch technical information related to equipment breakdowns, malfunctions, improvements, upgrades or modifications for the reliable long-term performance of the vesselsPrepare for scheduled dry dockings, surveys, and repairs on assigned ships, and arranges and manages supply of spares, stores, and services to vessels before scheduled maintenance and breakdown repairsManage vessels in full compliance with local and international rules and regulations; and with company’s Safety Management System (SMS)Analyse ships’ performance and relays this information to the onboard master and chief engineer; ensures compliance with current charterparty terms of employment and other commercial concernsEnsure compliance with all necessary operational certification and survey requirements applicable to assigned vesselsVisit vessels port; may sail with Company's ships to reasonably ascertain that they are operated in a safe, reliable and economical wayMonitor function and performance during ship visits and initiates effective problem solving of on-board issues, including technical, quality assurance, health and safety, commercial or personnel issuesTakes ownership of on-board issues and follows them through to resolutionPrepare budgets in the required detail for the yearly operation of assigned ships, scheduled dry dockings, surveys, repairs and ad-hoc modifications and repairs within required timelines.Monitor expenses of assigned vessels and submits monthly variance reporting and tracks against budgetEnsure that all reporting employees adhere to company policies and proceduresCommunicates expectations to direct reports; manages performance and provides leadership and support to team membersPerform other duties as requiredRequirementsDegree in marine engineering or equivalentMust have at least one year of experience as a technical superintendent in a company managing handy-max sized (or larger) vessels engaged in international trading and must have a minimum of one full year in rank as a chief engineer or have completed three contracts as a chief engineerEnglish language skills, both verbal and written, must be effective and suitable for a multi-cultural working environmentStrong technical knowledgeProficiency with Microsoft Office suite (including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel)Class 1 marine engineer certificateDemonstrates commitment to Company's’s Maritime Resource Management valuesPrevious experience with new-builds and dry-dockings preferredRegular international travel is required and may be on short noticeMust have mobility to conduct vessel inspectionsWill be required to carry a mobile device and check regularly outside of office hoursMust maintain a home internet connection for work outside of office hours
