Overview:
The Assistant Controller is a key member of the finance team, responsible for supporting the Controller and bookkeeping manager in managing the organization's financial operations. This role involves a wide range of duties, including financial analysis, accounting, reporting, and compliance. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical skills, excellent analytical abilities, and a keen eye for detail.
Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Assist in preparing monthly, Termly, and annual financial statements.
- Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards.
- Prepare and analyze financial reports, including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.
- Perform financial analysis, including variance analysis, trend analysis, and ratio analysis.
- Analyze financial data to identify trends and potential issues.
Accounting Operations:
- Oversee the general ledger and ensure its accuracy.
- Manage the accounts payable and accounts receivable functions.
- Assist with the month-end and year-end close processes.
- Prepare journal entries and reconciliations.
Internal Controls:
- Assist in the development and implementation of internal controls.
- Monitor compliance with internal control policies and procedures.
- Conduct internal audits and reviews.
Tax Compliance:
- Assist with the preparation of tax returns and filings.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- CPA certification obtained post-internship.
- In-depth knowledge of GAAP and standard accounting principles.Proficiency in financial systems and software, including ERP platforms, Excel, and analytical tools (e.g., VBA, Power BI).
- Expertise in financial modeling and scenario analysis.Advanced proficiency in Excel for financial data analysis and reporting.Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, with the ability to interpret complex financial data.Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
