Job Role: Unix Linux Administrator

Job Location: Chennai

Exp Range: 5Years to 8Years

Required technical skills: AIX, HP-UX, Linux, Redhat

Desired Competencies (Technical/Behavioral Competency):

  • System Administration: Install, configure, and manage Unix-based operating systems, including RHEL Linux, AIX, HP-UX.
  • Server Management: Monitor and maintain physical and virtual servers, ensuring optimal performance and uptime.
  • User Management: Manage user accounts, permissions, and authentication methods (LDAP, NIS, PAM).
  • Shell Scripting & Automation: Develop and maintain shell scripts (Bash, Perl, Python) for automation tasks like system monitoring, backups, and configuration management.
  • System Performance Tuning: Monitor system performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations to improve system efficiency.
  • Security Management: Apply patches, upgrades, and configure firewalls. Implement security best practices, ensuring systems are protected against vulnerabilities.
  • Backup & Recovery: Ensure system backups are performed regularly and that recovery procedures are in place and tested.
  • Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve hardware and software issues. Provide support for application and infrastructure teams.
  • Networking: Understand and manage networking concepts like TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPN, NFS, and SAN/NAS storage solutions.
  • Incident & Problem Management: Provide support for critical issues (Level 3 escalation). Perform root cause analysis for system outages and incidents.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain documentation related to system configurations, procedures, and policies.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with development, application, and infrastructure teams to provide Unix system support and collaborate on IT projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of Unix-based operating systems (Linux, AIX, Solaris, etc.).
  • Proficiency in shell scripting (Bash, Perl, Python).
  • Experience with system monitoring tools (Nagios, Zabbix, etc.) and automation tools (Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
  • Familiarity with virtualization platforms (VMware, KVM, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of networking principles (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, firewalls).
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with storage management (NFS, SAN, NAS).
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure) is a plus.
  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
