Chief DevOps Architect Role Description
Role Description:
The Chief DevOps Architect will be responsible for defining an environment that enables a zero-manual-effort development process for automotive software, covering everything from requirements to implementation, validation, and traceability between work products. This role requires deep knowledge of build systems, compilers, programming languages, package managers, container technologies, and the design of efficient end-to-end pipelines for automating development lifecycles. The Chief DevOps Architect will ensure that the development environment is high-performing and adheres to automotive compliance standards such as ASPICE, ISO 26262, and ISO 21434.
Responsibilities:
Development Environment Definition:
- Design and implement a zero-manual-effort development environment.
- Ensure seamless integration from requirements to implementation, validation, and traceability between work products.
Build Systems and Compilers:
- Deep knowledge and management of build systems such as CMake, Make, and Bazel.
- Expertise in compilers like GCC, Clang, and QCC.
Programming Languages and Package Management:
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Java, and Rust.
- Manage and optimize the use of package managers like Conan and Artifactory.
Container Technologies and Automation Pipelines:
- Implement and manage container technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, and Helm.
- Design efficient end-to-end pipelines for the automation of development lifecycles.
Unit Testing and Static Analysis:
- Integrate unit testing frameworks such as CTest and GTest.
- Utilize static analysis tools to ensure code quality and compliance.
Compliance and Configuration Management:
- Collaborate with compliance experts who define the 'what' (requirements from standards such as ASPICE, ISO 26262, and ISO 21434).
- Define and implement the 'how' by selecting and integrating methods and tools that fulfill these requirements.
- Manage configuration management processes to support the V-cycle.
Continuous Improvement:
- Continuously improve the development process to enhance performance and efficiency.
- Stay updated with the latest advancements in DevOps practices and tools.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with other architects and teams to ensure alignment of DevOps activities with overall project goals.
- Communicate progress, results, and issues to stakeholders in a clear and concise manner.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration to address and resolve DevOps-related challenges.
Qualifications:
Experience:
- Extensive experience in DevOps and automation for software development.
- Proven track record in setting up and managing DevOps pipelines for complex systems.
- Experience with build systems, compilers, and package managers.
Skills:
- Strong understanding of container technologies and automation pipelines.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as C, C++, Java, and Rust.
- Knowledge of unit testing frameworks and static analysis tools.
- Experience with automotive compliance standards (ASPICE, ISO 26262, ISO 21434).
- Ability to design and implement efficient DevOps strategies and plans.
- Strong leadership and team collaboration skills.
Education:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Certifications in relevant DevOps practices and methodologies are a plus.
