Senior copy editor/Sub Editor to support a major Condé Nast print publication in the Middle East. This is a contract position.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Copyedit and proofread to a high standard to ensure that content is error-free, grammatically correct and in keeping with the publication’s style and tone.
  • Check proper names and company names for accuracy and spelling.
  • Flag to higher-level editors any sensitive issues in content.
  • Elegantly cut copy to fit layouts, when required.
  • See content through every stage of the production process, from preliminary layout to final proof, managing details and communication along the way.
  • Occasionally copyedit stories on other platforms, as time allows.
  • Liaise with other departments, when required, to ensure consistency across all brand touchpoints.
  • Keep market style guide updated.


SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS

  • 5+ years experience of copyediting, proofreading or sub-editing in a print publishing environment (magazine, book, etc).
  • Thorough grasp of English grammar, spelling and idiomatic expression.
  • Organised, efficient and flexible copyediting skills across different mediums and tones.
  • Ability to make thoughtful copy cuts under deadline.
  • Experience with Adobe applications (InCopy, InDesign), Slack and Google Workspace helpful.
  • Comfortable liaising with different departments across the business.
  • Ability to work meticulously under tight deadlines.
  • Comfortable both being collaborative and working autonomously, as the situation requires.
  • Creative problem solver who can simultaneously see the big and small picture.
  • Positive attitude and open to constructive feedback.
  • Familiarity with Condé Nast titles.
  • Written and spoken Arabic is a plus.
