Job Description
As a Senior Security operations Engineer, you will typically focus on leading initiatives to significantly improve an organization's security operations capabilities, including enhancing threat detection, incident response, automation, and overall security posture by identifying gaps, implementing new technologies, optimizing processes, and training teams to achieve a higher level of cybersecurity maturity.
Responsibilities
Assessing current security operations: Conducting thorough analysis of existing security tools, processes, and procedures to identify areas for improvement and prioritize upliftment projects.
Developing strategy and roadmap: Creating a comprehensive plan to enhance security operations, including technology upgrades, process optimization, staffing adjustments, and training programs.
Implementing new security technologies: Evaluating and deploying advanced security solutions like SIEM, EDR, SOAR, threat intelligence platforms, and automated response tools to improve threat detection and response capabilities.
Process improvement: Streamlining incident response workflows, defining clear escalation procedures, and establishing standardized documentation to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
Security automation: Automating repetitive security tasks like alert triage, threat analysis, and remediation actions to reduce manual effort and improve response time.
Threat intelligence integration: Actively monitoring and incorporating relevant threat intelligence to proactively identify potential threats and adjust security posture accordingly.
Training and awareness: Developing and delivering targeted security training programs for SOC analysts, incident responders, and other relevant stakeholders to enhance their skills and knowledge.
Metrics and reporting: Establishing key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of security operations and track progress towards upliftment goals.
Collaboration with stakeholders: Working closely with IT teams, business leaders, and other security teams to ensure alignment with overall security strategy and business objectives.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Cybersecurity, or equivalent experience in related field.
10+ years professional experience managing and maintaining Security Operations Center.
Deep understanding of cybersecurity concepts, including threat vectors, attack methodologies, and mitigation strategies
Expertise in security operations tools and technologies (SIEM, EDR, firewalls, network monitoring, etc.)
Proven experience in incident response and threat hunting
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and collaboration abilities to work effectively across different teams
Project management skills to execute security upliftment initiatives on time and within budget
Certifications
ITIL or IT4IT master’s certifications
Project Management - PMP and or Prince 2 Certification.
Certified Ethical Hacker (CEH)
