Location - Vadodara

The Head of Design is responsible for leading the design and development of process equipment, such as reactors, pressure vessels, heat exchangers, and other specialized industrial machinery. This role involves overseeing all stages of the design process to ensure that equipment meets customer specifications, industry standards, and operational requirements. The Head of Design will manage a team of design engineers and work closely with R&D, production, and quality departments to drive innovation, optimize design efficiency, and ensure product reliability and safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design Strategy and Innovation:
  • Develop and implement the design strategy for process equipment, ensuring alignment with company goals, client needs, and industry standards.
  • Lead the design of complex process equipment, ensuring functionality, safety, and efficiency.
  • Drive innovation in equipment design, materials selection, and engineering practices to meet evolving industry requirements.
  1. Technical Leadership and Team Management:
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of design engineers, fostering a high-performance, collaborative environment.
  • Provide technical guidance on design challenges, complex calculations, and engineering standards.
  • Conduct regular performance reviews, provide feedback, and ensure continuous development of team members.
  1. Project Oversight and Design Lifecycle Management:
  • Oversee the entire design lifecycle from initial concept to detailed engineering, prototyping, testing, and production.
  • Coordinate with project management to define project timelines, resources, and deliverables.
  • Review and approve technical drawings, 3D models, and specifications to ensure compliance with industry codes (ASME, API, etc.) and client requirements.
  1. Quality, Safety, and Compliance:
  • Ensure that all designs meet industry codes, regulatory standards, and company quality policies, particularly regarding ASME, ANSI, and API standards.
  • Implement design validation processes, including testing, FEA, and reliability analysis, to verify functionality and durability.
  • Establish and maintain a process for continuous design improvements based on quality feedback and performance data.
  1. Cross-Functional Collaboration:
  • Work closely with R&D, production, and quality control teams to ensure seamless transition from design to manufacturing.
  • Collaborate with sales and marketing teams to provide technical insights and support during client meetings and project proposals.
  • Act as a technical advisor for troubleshooting during the equipment installation and commissioning phases.
  1. Client Interaction and Customization:
  • Participate in client discussions to understand specific requirements, customization needs, and address technical inquiries.
  • Translate client requirements into technical specifications, ensuring designs are aligned with client expectations and operational requirements.
  • Support business development and sales teams with design presentations, technical proposals, and product demonstrations as needed.
  1. Budgeting and Resource Management:
  • Develop and manage the design department’s budget, ensuring cost-effective use of resources.
  • Oversee procurement of design tools, software, and technology to improve design efficiency and output.
  • Manage relationships with third-party vendors, consultants, and technical suppliers as required.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, Industrial Design, or a related field; a Master’s degree is preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years in design engineering, with 5+ years in a leadership role in process equipment design, particularly for industries such as chemical, petrochemical, oil & gas, or water treatment.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor) and FEA/CFD analysis tools.
  • Strong understanding of ASME, API, ANSI, and other relevant industry codes and standards.
  • In-depth knowledge of process engineering principles and materials science, including knowledge of corrosion-resistant materials and high-temperature designs.
