Numerical Relay Validation Specialist

Type: Permanent full time, Monday-Friday
Responsibilities:- Develop test plans and strategies to validate the numerical relays and IEDs, taking into account product requirements, standards, and customer expectations.
- Create test cases and test procedures based on the product's functional and performance requirements, covering various scenarios and use cases to ensure thorough testing.
- Conduct testing, which may include functional testing, performance testing, stress testing, and interoperability testing, ensuring that the relays/IEDs perform as expected under different conditions.
- Verify compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations, such as IEC 61850, IEEE, IEC, and others, by performing tests to validate compliance.
- Maintain detailed records of test results, procedures, and test configurations, documenting any issues and their resolutions.
- Generate test reports summarizing the results and findings of validation tests, communicating the status and progress to the R&D team.
- Investigate and diagnose issues discovered during testing, working with the development team to identify and resolve root causes.
- Propose process improvements, tools, or methodologies to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of the validation process.
- Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical Engineering (EEE) degree.
- Broad knowledge of product validation and technologies, with an agile mindset.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written English communication skills.
- Able to work independently or closely with others, with a team-oriented approach.
- Strong time management skills and adaptability in a dynamic environment with multiple simultaneous assignments and priorities.
- A strong foundation in electrical engineering principles for understanding the operation and application of numerical relays or IEDs.
- Proficiency in creating clear and concise technical documentation for test plans, test cases, and test reports.
- 3-5 years of experience in R&D testing and verification roles or testing & commissioning background, particularly in electrical protection, numerical relays, or IEDs with SAS automation.
- Experience with sophisticated test equipment, such as Omicron, Doble, Freja, Megger, and/or other makes.
- Knowledge of protection functions, including line/impedance/distance protection, transformer and reactor protection, busbar protection, motor protection, and feeder backup protection.
- Protocol communication knowledge, including IEC 61850 Ed1 & Ed2, DNP3, IEC60870-5-103, and Modbus, with on-site commissioning experience.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills for interacting with team members, documenting test processes, and reporting findings effectively.
