Canadian Tax Associate Job Opportunity

Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Canadian tax professional to join our team. This role involves managing and preparing Canadian tax filings while supporting tax planning and client advisory initiatives.

  • Tax Filing Preparation: Prepare Canadian personal (T1), corporate (T2), and trust (T3) tax returns and forms including T4, T5, T106, T1134, and T1135.
  • Corporate Reorganizations: Assist with cross-border tax matters and estate planning.
  • Supporting Documentation: Draft working papers and documentation for tax filings.
  • CRA Audits: Support CRA tax audits – including data gathering, analysis, correspondence, and liaison with clients and the CRA.
  • Tax Planning Strategies: Work closely with senior staff and partners on tax planning strategies.
  • Client Relationships: Develop an understanding of client businesses, maintain strong client relationships, and provide responsive support.
  • Timely Delivery: Manage timelines during tax season to ensure timely delivery.
Required Skills and Qualifications:

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • Canadian Tax Experience: 2–3 years of hands-on experience in preparation or review of Canadian T1, T2 returns.
  • Familiarity with Canadian Tax Laws: Strong familiarity with Canadian tax laws and filings.
  • Public Accounting Experience: Experience in public accounting, preferably focused on taxation.
  • Accounting Degree: Bachelor's degree in Accounting is required; Master's in Commerce preferred.
  • Tax/Accounting Software: Exposure to tax/accounting software such as QuickBooks, TaxPrep, Profile, CaseWare, Sage is a plus.
  • Communication Skills: Strong communication, organizational, and multitasking skills.
  • Teamwork: Team-oriented with a proactive approach and attention to detail.
  • Independent Work: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Professional Development: Demonstrates initiative, professionalism, and a drive for continuous learning.
