Job Description

The Middleware Operations Specialist is responsible for ensuring the optimal performance and reliability of RabbitMQ and Kafka clusters across on-premises, cloud, or hybrid environments.

This role requires a deep understanding of messaging systems, monitoring tools, and middleware performance metrics. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record in administering Kafka and RabbitMQ in production environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, deploy, and manage RabbitMQ and Kafka clusters to ensure high availability and scalability.
  • Configure brokers, exchanges, queues, topics, partitions, replication, and retention policies to optimize system performance.
  • Monitor platform health using tools like Prometheus, Grafana, Kafka Manager, and RabbitMQ Management UI, and set up proactive alerting to prevent issues.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot issues such as latency, stale messages, and downtime.
  • Implement access control, authentication (SASL, Kerberos), encryption (SSL/TLS), and RBAC/ACL policies to ensure security and compliance.
  • Enforce data governance and regulatory compliance by maintaining clear records of architecture, configuration standards, incident logs, and operational procedures.
  • Optimize throughput, latency, and resource usage through fine-tuning broker and pipeline configurations; plan for future scaling capacity.
  • Automate routine tasks using scripting (Shell, Python) and IaC tools like Ansible or Terraform, and integrate platforms with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Design and maintain backup, restore, and failover strategies to achieve high availability across datacenters or cloud zones.
  • Collaborate with development, DevOps, and data engineering teams to align middleware integration with business requirements.
  • Offer guidance, documentation, and knowledge transfer for messaging best practices.
