Job Description

We are seeking a skilled Backend System Architect to take full ownership of designing and managing the backend architecture for scalable web/mobile applications. This role demands expertise with Node.js, Firebase, and MongoDB, focusing on building reliable, high-performance backend solutions for user-centric products.

This position involves owning entire backend architecture from planning to deployment, developing user authentication and authorization using JWT, OTP-based login, and session management. You will also be responsible for implementing logic, user discovery algorithms, and preference-based filters.

Built chat and messaging system with Firebase for real-time messaging and delivery/read receipts. Integrate Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) for push notifications on iOS and Android. Design and manage MongoDB schema optimized for high-performance matchmaking and chat use cases.

Ensure secure, tokenized API access using industry best practices, including HTTPS and role-based access. Handle media uploads securely via cloud storage. Implement analytics hooks for key user actions and behavior tracking. Built admin APIs for user moderation, reporting, and flagging systems.

Maintain API performance, database health, error logs, and uptime metrics. Collaborate with DevOps to set up CI/CD, monitoring, and auto-scaling backend infrastructure. Manage environment configurations securely with secrets handling.

Built fallback systems to handle network failure, retries, and message queueing if needed. Write clean, modular, and testable code with unit/integration tests for critical backend logic.

Required Skills and Qualifications

This role requires:

  • 3+ years' experience in backend development with Node.js, Firebase, and MongoDB.
  • Strong understanding of token-based authentication and security practices.
  • Experience building scalable, real-time chat or messaging systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud storage and services.
  • Solid knowledge of CI/CD, monitoring, and application scaling.
  • Clear communication skills for technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration.
