Job Title: Claims and Recoveries Manager

We are seeking a skilled Claims and Recoveries Manager to join our team. This is a challenging role that requires strong analytical and communication skills.

Job Description:
  • Monitor and handle all legal issues regarding claims matters, including recovery actions for outstanding freight, detention, and demurrage, abandoned and longstanding containers, and other costs and expenses incurred by the company and recoverable from third parties.
  • Gather all relevant documents and report to Head Office all claims within 24 hours of receipt.
  • Advise on the merits of the claim and future steps to be taken.
  • Monitor and assist Head Office claims as well as other colleagues in handling of claims and court cases until closure.
  • Handle all P&I related matters such as cargo claims, General Average and stowage, etc.
  • Monitor and handle all third-party damages to company containers and cargo, including stevedore damages and ensure prompt reserves are taken against such third parties.
  • Handle debt recoveries in accordance with tribunal regulations.
  • Draft and vet various service agreements and other documents pertaining to business operations.
  • Ensure compliance with implemented procedures by the Head Office Legal Department across the network.
  • Provide guidance to and assist branch offices on handling legal matters.
  • Provide legal advice and assist other departments on shipping-related issues.
  • Handle loss of OB/L cases and apply bank guarantee procedures.
  • Provide regular reports highlighting issues requiring intervention.
Key Performance Indicators:
  • Monitor and handle court cases, appeals, writ petitions, and actions initiated by authorities.
  • Appoint and liaise with reputable surveyors and outside counsels, negotiating reasonable expenses.
  • Make recommendations for improving claims handling processes and procedures.
  • Monitor and report on Indian case law and regulations impacting company scope of activity.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Minimum graduate degree.
  • Minimum 5+ years' experience in shipping industry, preferably with Cargo/Marine claims experience.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Good analytical skills, reporting skills, trouble shooting, and proficiency in MS-office tools, especially Excel & Powerpoint.
