Job Description

The Director of Software Engineering is a key leadership position that demands a software engineering leader to drive impact and innovation within the Commercial and Investment Bank's Equities Tech Team.

This role involves leading technical areas, driving multiple complex projects and initiatives, and serving as a primary decision maker for teams.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead technology and process implementations to achieve functional technology objectives
  • Makes decisions that influence teams resources, budget, tactical operations, and the execution and implementation of processes and procedures
  • Carries governance accountability for coding decisions, control obligations, and measures of success such as cost of ownership, maintainability, and portfolio operations
  • Delivers technical solutions that can be leveraged across multiple businesses and domains
  • Influences peer leaders and senior stakeholders across the business, product, and technology teams

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Formal training or certification on software engineering concepts and 10+ years applied experience. In addition, 5+ years of experience leading technologists to manage, anticipate and solve complex technical items within your domain of expertise
  • Expert in Computer science fundamentals - object oriented design, data structures, algorithm, problem solving, complexity analysis, server side development experience with Core Java & multi-threading
  • Experience with Messaging broker - Kafka , AMPS
  • Expert in Cloud Technology - AWS
  • Experience with REST API, Spring boot, ORM
  • Experience with RDBMS/No-SQL
  • Experience with Scripting - Shell/Python
  • Ability to work in a team environment and partner with development and support teams globally, ability to lead projects independently and provide guidance to the team
  • Strong business focus and a clear understanding that technology is the means to achieving business goals
  • Effective partnership skills to work with the business to ensure requirements are captured correctly
  • Ability to perform in a fast paced environment where time to delivery and/or resolution is critical to protect/increase revenue stream

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of software engineering practices for SDLC including coding standards, code reviews, build processes & operations
  • 18 years of progressive experience in systems and technology, preferably with exposure to financial systems
