Job Title: Research Engineer

At Saint-Gobain Research India, we are seeking a highly skilled Research Engineer to join our team. As a Research Engineer, you will be responsible for conducting research and development activities related to solid mechanics and Tribology on polymers and composite materials.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement experiments for characterization and testing of materials for new material innovation
  • Utilize various characterization instruments such as Tribometer (Pin on disc), UTM and DMA for evaluating coefficient of friction, wearability, viscoelasticity and strength analysis of polymer and composites
  • Analyze and interpret experimental data to draw meaningful insights which can be utilized by BU
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop innovative solutions and products
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in the field of material science and solid mechanics
  • High adherence to safety policy of SG
  • To independently handle, calibrate and trouble shoot instruments such as Tribometer, UTM and DMA
  • Support all SG business for needs in terms of tribological and strength properties subsequently support with data interpretation and timely reporting
  • Develop knowledge base with inferences of experiments and coming up with new material innovation
  • Exploring adjacencies of competencies such Tribology and strength analysis and developing it
  • Developing new test methods
  • Delivering the Competency and BU projects following systematic project management framework
Requirements:
  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge on Tribology, solid mechanics, polymer, composites, and thermodynamics
  • Hands-on experience with processing, characterization, and testing of polymers and composite materials
  • Familiarity with characterization instruments such as Tribometer, UTM and DMA
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Effective communication and collaboration abilities
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Project management knowledge is a plus
  • Good knowledge on Tribology, Solid mechanics, and material properties
  • Should have strong ability to establish structure-property-process relationship and be able to apply for Root Cause
  • Strong in interpretation on characterization & tests reports
  • Possess strong leadership skills - having experience in leading projects using stage gate methodology
  • Good people connect across cross-functional and multi-functional teams
  • Should possess good time management skills and should be able to prioritize based on requirement in dynamic work culture
  • Basic knowledge on statistical tools
  • Possess good verbal and written communication skills
  • Mandatory to have good presentation skill to convey message in concise manner
Academic Qualification:

PhD in Mechanical with a focus on Tribology, Material Science (1-2 Years exp.)
