Job Opportunity: Same Day Surgery Coding Specialist

The role of a Same Day Surgery Coding Specialist is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy and efficiency of coding surgical procedures performed on the same day as patient admission. This position requires compliance with established coding guidelines, regulations, and standards while maintaining the highest standards of accuracy.

Responsibilities:

  • Review medical records, operative reports, and documentation to ensure accurate assignment of procedures and diagnoses.
  • Assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for same day surgeries according to coding guidelines and payer requirements.
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to clarify documentation for completeness and accuracy.
  • Stay updated on coding standards, regulations, and best practices to maintain compliance and enhance coding accuracy.
  • Provide education and support to clinical staff on proper documentation practices and coding requirements.
  • Assist in preparing reports related to coding accuracy, productivity, and compliance.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in health information management or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification as a CPC, CCS, or similar credential is preferred.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in medical coding, with specific experience in same day surgery coding preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and surgical procedures.
  • Proficient in coding software and electronic health record systems.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
