About This Role

This is a full-time, on-site opportunity for a Software Development Engineer (SDE) + Instructor to blend hands-on backend development with teaching responsibilities.

The ideal candidate will possess technical expertise in Node.js, Express.js, Databases, APIs, or MERN stack, and have excellent communication skills to explain complex concepts clearly.

The role requires the ability to guide students during labs and projects, helping them debug, optimize, and scale applications.

We are seeking an experienced professional with 4-10 years of industry experience, preferably in Backend Development, who can stay updated with backend technologies and bring industry insights into the classroom.

Key Responsibilities
  • Backend Development Expertise: Contribute technical expertise in Node.js, Express.js, Databases, APIs, or MERN stack to support academic and project-based learning.
  • Curriculum Support & Content Creation: Assist in designing, reviewing, and refining backend curriculum and learning materials to reflect real-world practices.
  • Hands-on Mentorship: Provide technical guidance to students during labs and backend projects, helping them debug, optimize, and scale applications.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with faculty members and Newton School teams to align curriculum with industry needs.
  • Student Success: Mentor students on backend best practices, coding standards, and industry career paths.
  • Continuous Learning: Stay updated with backend technologies and bring industry insights into the classroom.
Requirements
  • Professional Experience: 4-10 years of industry experience as a Software Developer/Engineer with a focus on Backend Development (preferably MERN stack).
  • Proficiency: Node.js, Express.js, Databases (SQL/NoSQL), and API design.
  • Solid Understanding: RESTful APIs, authentication, server-side logic, and performance optimization.
  • Communication Skills: Ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Passion for Knowledge-Sharing: Passion for mentoring and guiding students.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Mentoring Experience: Prior mentoring, corporate training, or teaching experience.
  • Familiarity with Modern Teaching Tools: Familiarity with modern teaching tools and methodologies.
  • System Design Experience: Exposure to system design and scalable backend architectures.
