Located in Salt Lake City, Kolkata, our new 11-story GCC with an integrated factory will soon be operational in Silicon Valley, New Town.

The team at GCC Kolkata collaborates closely with senior leaders from utilities across various ranks. Iskraemeco India has a state-of-the-art integrated electronics factory in Hyderabad, equipped with in-house EMS, plastic moulding, and wire harnessing facilities.

Job Overview

We have multiple openings in hardware and firmware engineering with 5 to 10 years of experience. These positions involve working on platforms and products for all continents. Location: Kolkata, India.

Role Description

A Senior Hardware Development Engineer plays a crucial role in designing, developing, and implementing hardware systems for smart metering products. Key responsibilities include leading hardware design projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and ensuring that products meet performance, quality, and regulatory standards. This position involves working with cutting-edge technologies related to energy metering, IoT, wireless communications, and embedded systems.

This senior role requires working with global clients and traveling to destinations such as SEA, EMEA, NAM, and LATAM.

Responsibilities
  • Hardware Design & Development of smart water, electricity, and gas meters with communication systems based on Cellular, RF, and NBIoT technology.
  • Preparation of design documents, WIS, and Bill of Materials.
  • Designing PCBs (Printed Circuit Boards) and other hardware components focusing on low-power consumption, high reliability, and cost efficiency.
  • Collaborating with software engineers to integrate hardware with firmware, ensuring seamless system functionality.
  • Testing of platforms, products, and components.
  • Complete product validation and documentation according to standard procedures.
  • Module-wise circuit testing, analysis, troubleshooting, and documentation.
  • Negotiating and deciding as a cross-functional team leader with suppliers and component manufacturers.
  • Prototyping and Testing: Developing prototypes and overseeing the testing of hardware components to validate performance and ensure they meet product specifications.
  • Electrical testing, validation, and troubleshooting of smart metering products, including power analysis, signal integrity testing, and component analysis.
  • Failure analysis and working with the quality assurance team to resolve issues.
Accountability - Project Management
  • Manage hardware design projects from concept to production, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.
  • Lead design reviews, cross-functional meetings, and collaborate with product management and R&D teams to align hardware requirements with product roadmaps.
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance and sharing expertise in hardware design best practices.
  • Ensure efficiency and effectiveness of projects through DFMEA, DFM, DFT, DFA, and PFMEA.
  • Run design pilots.
Education, Qualifications, and Experience

Bachelor's and/or Master's in Electronics and Telecommunication engineering.

More than 5 years of senior experience in working with smart energy meters and communication systems.

Experience in evaluating and selecting components.

Proficiency in Altium Designer is an added advantage.

Excellent knowledge of microcontroller-based embedded solutions development.

Hands-on experience in analogue and digital electronic circuit design.

Expertise in designing and developing power supplies (DC-DC converters, fly-back converters, cap drop power supplies).

Proficiency in analyzing and solving EMI/EMC issues.

Expertise in writing and performing unit tests.

Expertise in integrating I2C, SPI, UART.

Hands-on experience with testing and debugging equipment (e.g., power analyzers).

Solid understanding of embedded systems, microcontrollers, and low-power circuit design.

Hands-on experience with testing and debugging equipment.
