Job Title: Backend Software Developer

About the Role

We're seeking a highly skilled and motivated backend software developer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering department, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining the backend systems that power our innovative AI solutions.

Your primary focus will be on building high-performance APIs using FastAPI, working with various data stores such as Postgres and MongoDB, and deploying services on cloud platforms like AWS and GCP.

In addition to technical skills, we're looking for individuals who are passionate about learning, collaborating, and driving results.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Ship Microservices: Develop fast and scalable microservices using FastAPI, handling thousands of requests per second.
  2. Power Real-Time Learning: Drive quiz-scoring and AI-tutor engines, processing millions of events daily.
  3. Design for Scale & Safety: Model data, craft secure back-end components, and ensure reliability.
  4. Deploy Globally: Roll out Dockerised services on NGINX, EC2, S3, SQS, and Kubernetes.
  5. Automate Releases: Implement GitLab CI/CD, blue-green deployments, and canary releases.
  6. Own Reliability: Monitor with Prometheus/Grafana, aim for 99.9% uptime, and optimise infrastructure costs.
  7. Expose Gen-AI at Scale: Publish LLM inference and vector-search endpoints in partnership with the AI team.
Requirements
  • 2+ years of Python backend experience (FastAPI)
  • Strong Docker and container orchestration skills
  • Hands-on experience with GitLab CI/CD, AWS (EC2, S3, SQS), or GCP (GKE/Compute) in production
  • SQL/NoSQL knowledge (Postgres, MongoDB) and solid system design fundamentals
