
Software Engineer

Mainframe developers are responsible for the full software development lifecycle of mainframe applications.
This includes analyzing requirements, designing technical solutions, writing and testing code, debugging issues, and providing ongoing support.
Collaboration with business analysts, system architects, and other IT professionals is required to deliver high-quality solutions that meet our business needs.
The ideal candidate will have expertise in mainframe technologies and understanding of complex legacy systems.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, code, test, and debug mainframe applications using languages such as COBOL and PL/I.
- Maintain, enhance, and support existing mainframe applications, ensuring their stability and performance.
- Analyze and understand complex business logic within existing mainframe systems.
- Develop and maintain batch processing jobs using JCL (Job Control Language).
- Work with online transaction processing systems such as CICS (Customer Information Control System).
- Design and implement database changes using DB2 or VSAM (Virtual Storage Access Method).
- Write and optimize SQL queries for data retrieval and manipulation.
- Understand database structures and relationships within the mainframe environment.
- Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, including program specifications, data flow diagrams, and system documentation.
- Perform unit testing, system testing, and integration testing of mainframe applications.
- Identify and resolve software defects and performance issues.
- Participate in code reviews to ensure adherence to coding standards and best practices.
- Troubleshoot and resolve production issues related to mainframe applications.
- Provide on-call support as needed to ensure system availability.
- Analyze system dumps and logs to diagnose problems.
- Work effectively with cross-functional teams, including business analysts, system administrators, and other developers.
- Communicate technical information clearly and concisely to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Keep abreast of advancements in mainframe technologies, tools, and methodologies.
- Participate in training and development activities to enhance your skills.
- Familiarity with COBOL, JCL, and DB2/VSAM, with a strong understanding of database concepts and query optimization techniques.
Desirable Skills and Qualifications:
- Experience working with mainframe modernization techniques and tools.
- Familiarity with DevOps concepts and tools in a mainframe environment.
- Knowledge of security concepts relevant to mainframe systems.
- Ability to work in an Agile development environment.
