Data Protection Specialist Role

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Data Protection Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, implementation, and management of our Data Loss Prevention program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Program Development and Implementation:
    • Design and implement enterprise-wide data protection policies, workflows, and controls to prevent unauthorized data exposure.
    • Assist in selecting and deploying data protection solutions that align with business and security needs.
    • Develop and manage data protection deployment and tuning plans in coordination with stakeholders.
  • Incident Response and Policy Creation:
    • Monitor data protection alerts and incidents, investigate policy violations, and coordinate incident response.
    • Perform forensic analysis and root cause analysis of data protection incidents.
    • Work with Security Operations Center (SOC) and threat intelligence teams to correlate data protection alerts with other security threats.
    • Develop and manage data protection policies for data in motion, data at rest, and data in use.
    • Classify sensitive information (e.g., PII, PHI, PCI) using automated and manual processes.
  • Classification and Enforcement:
    • Implement data classification schemes and enforce tagging across the organization.
    • Collaborate with data owners to define sensitivity levels and associated handling procedures.
  • Risk Management, Compliance, and Collaboration:
    • Ensure data protection policies support compliance with regulatory and legal requirements (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA, PCI-DSS, SOX).
    • Participate in audits and risk assessments related to data protection.
    • Prepare reports and metrics for leadership, regulators, and stakeholders.
    • Liaise with IT, Legal, HR, Privacy, and Compliance teams to align data protection strategies with organizational objectives.
    • Conduct awareness sessions and provide training to employees on data protection policies and procedures.
  • Administration and Maintenance:
    • Manage and maintain data protection technologies and integrate them with Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB), and other security tools.
    • Perform upgrades, patches, and system tuning to ensure optimal performance of the data protection solution.
    Requirements:
    • Bachelor's degree in Information Security, Computer Science, or related field.
    • 3-7 years of experience in Information Security with at least 2 years focused on data protection.
    • Hands-on experience with one or more leading data protection platforms.
    • Solid understanding of network protocols, email systems, cloud platforms, and endpoint security.
    • Knowledge of regulatory requirements.
    • Experience with scripting and automation is a plus.
    • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
    • Relevant certifications preferred.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience with CASB, SIEM, User Entity Behavior Analytics (UEBA), and Insider Threat programs.
  • Familiarity with data discovery tools and methods.
  • Exposure to cloud data protection tools.
