Cloud Cost Optimization Engineer

Smarsh is a leader in communications compliance, archiving, and analytics. Our customers manage over 500 million daily conversations across 80 channels. As a Cloud Cost Optimization Engineer, you will be instrumental in managing and optimizing our cloud spend. You will work closely with the Head of FinOps and the VP of Technology Strategy to ensure cost efficiency, reporting, and financial transparency across our cloud services.

About the Role

This is a key role in our organization, requiring a strong technical background, hands-on experience with AWS cloud platforms, and a solid understanding of FinOps principles. You will work directly with various engineering, products, and finance teams to create cost visibility reports and dashboards using cloud native and third-party tools.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with engineering, products, and finance teams to manage hosting costs.
  • Create cost visibility reports and dashboards using cloud native and third-party tools.
  • Implement and monitor cost anomaly in complex architecture in a large-scale deployment.
  • Work with financial teams on production-related budgets and forecasts.
  • Create financial models to calculate TCO of new products/projects.
  • Partner with development, support, and DevOps teams to encourage financial responsibility.
  • Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in cloud cost optimization and FinOps methodologies.

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience as a Cloud FinOps Engineer.
  • Strong knowledge of public cloud operating models, observability, cloud infrastructure, networking architecture, containers, and microservices.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills to collaborate effectively with global cross-functional teams.
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.
  • AWS Solutions Architect Associate certification preferred.
  • FinOps Certified Engineer or Practitioner – Desirable.
