Data Platform Engineering Director

We are seeking an experienced Data Platform Engineering Director to lead our cloud data platform engineering team. The successful candidate will have a proven track record in designing and implementing scalable and highly performant enterprise cloud data platforms.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and architecture of our data platform infrastructure, collaborating with cross-functional teams to define requirements and select technologies.
  • Oversee the implementation and deployment of data platform solutions, ensuring adherence to best practices, standards, and security protocols.
  • Establish monitoring and alerting mechanisms to proactively monitor the health, performance, and availability of data platforms.
  • Manage data platform access, including cloud storage, databases, data warehouses, and data lakes.
  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of data platform processes and platform usage for stakeholders and management.
  • Ensure the security and compliance of data platforms with industry regulations and best practices.
  • Lead efforts to integrate data from disparate sources, systems, and applications into a unified data ecosystem.
  • Implement data processing and analytics capabilities, including batch processing, real-time streaming, and data analytics frameworks.
  • Manage relationships with data platform vendors and service providers.
  • Lead and mentor a team of data platform engineers to foster a culture of collaboration and continuous learning.
  • Communicate regularly with stakeholders, including IT, business, and executive leadership, to provide updates on data platform initiatives and align platform strategies with business goals and priorities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in computer science, information systems, or related field.
  • Proven track record with at least 10+ years of experience in data engineering, dataOps for a large-scale data platform serving multiple business lines and products.
  • 5+ years of experience in a leadership role, managing and scaling engineering teams.
  • Extensive experience in designing solutions on High trust/PCI-compliant cloud data platform.
  • Deep knowledge and rich experience in data ingestions, including streaming technology and systems.
  • Strong experience in data management and analytics tools and technologies, such as SQL, NoSQL databases, MS SQL Server, Distribute PostgreSQL, Citus, SSRS, SSIS, Hadoop, Spark, Databricks, Kafka, and cloud-based data lake platforms.
  • Strong expertise in designing and building scalable data pipelines, ETL processes, and analytics solutions using cloud services, ETL tools, Snowflake, etc.
  • Proficiency with data platform architecture, design, data dictionaries, multi-dimensional models, objects, star and snowflake schemas, as well as structures for data lakes, data science, and data warehouses.
  • Experience in migrating data from existing warehouses or transactional data stores (SQL Server) to cloud data platform.
  • Experience in software development with programming languages like Python, C#, or Scala.
  • Strong understanding and practical experience with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and agile methodologies.
  • Experience in BI/Reporting tools like Apache Superset, PowerBI.
  • Experience with data platform automation, orchestration, and containerization tools (e.g., Ansible, Kubernetes, Docker) for managing and deploying platform infrastructure and services.
  • Solid understanding of data security principles, practices, and compliance requirements, including GDPR, HIPAA, SOC 2, and PCI-DSS, and experience implementing security controls and measures.
  • Experience with AI/ML data models, data modeling, data governance is preferred.
  • Excellent leadership and management skills, with the ability to lead and motivate a team, set clear goals and expectations, and drive performance and results.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex data platform challenges, identify solutions, and implement effective strategies to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, build consensus, and influence decision-making.
  • Experience working in regulated industries such as pharma, health sciences with knowledge of compliance requirements and standards related to data management and privacy (e.g., HIPAA, GDPR) is preferred.
