Job Overview

Wayfair seeks talented individuals to join our Observability team. As a Platform Engineer III, you will design scalable systems while maintaining a startup mindset.

We value fast, data-driven innovation and collaboration across teams to ensure platforms and services are production-ready. This role contributes to both platform and software codebases.

Responsibilities:
  • Grow our systems into best-in-class for efficiency, stability, observability, velocity, and scale in the e-commerce space.
  • Influence the design and architecture of our system as part of the Cloud Enablement journey, maintaining legacy tools.
  • Collaborate with development teams to design scalable and reliable systems, considering fault tolerance, availability, and performance.
  • Work with engineers to optimize and develop repeatable systems for both sides to leverage each other.
  • Help service owners build realistic Service Level Indicators (SLOs) and set Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
  • Ensure production services have reliability built into their design and provide support even after automation.
  • Participate in a shared on-call schedule managed across Engineering.
  • Mentor new hires and other engineers by example and other avenues to increase technical efficiency.
Requirements:
  • 6+ years of experience in DevOps or SRE roles, or software development, with an understanding of cloud infrastructure.
  • Experience with cloud platforms GCP, AWS, Azure, and containerization technologies.
  • Design experience with distributed systems and microservices architecture.
  • Strong understanding of monitoring and alerting, with a focus on performance monitoring and tracing instrumentation.
  • Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines and version control systems.
  • Excellent communication skills across engineers and business stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of configuration management tools.

  • Passion for leading large technical initiatives and influencing design decisions.
  • Ample experience gathering requirements from stakeholders and reaching consensus on prioritization.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and leading code reviews.
