
Operations Manager

We are seeking a skilled professional to join our operations team. This role will be based in Mumbai and involves working in a hybrid environment with both office and remote work.
This is a leadership position that requires managing a team of professionals supporting various geographies and engaging with senior leaders on strategic discussions. The opportunity exists to enhance knowledge in the Reinsurance broking domain as well as develop leadership skills.
In the first 30 days, we expect you to gain in-depth knowledge of the services you will handle and understand the role requirements. Within 60 days, attain competency and establish good relationships with all colleagues and stakeholders. Finally, within 90 days, manage the team seamlessly with limited support.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Understanding technical insurance and reinsurance concepts, including Excess of Loss, Facultative, and Proportional treaty.
- Staying up-to-date with market practices within the technical domain areas.
- Networking with external groups to increase knowledge of the technical area.
- Maintaining robust operational management discipline using reporting metrics to ensure all colleagues operate within published procedures and professional standards.
- Leading team members in day-to-day operations to ensure accuracy and quality of work for outstanding client service.
- Ensuring compliance adherence to internal and external regulatory guidelines.
- Actively managing FMEA, Risk Register, and all compliance-related matters according to defined timelines.
- Having a good understanding of operational risk control within the organization or department.
- Helping teams minimize E&O exposure.
- Managing migrations seamlessly, including system and/or work transfers by identifying roadblocks, providing solutions, and perfect execution.
- Ensuring team members are trained adequately, and all training documents/records are maintained within the team.
- Managing capacity planning and forecasting.
- Ensuring leave policy aligns with business demands.
- Adhering to the engagement rhythm, conducting monthly performance reviews, and appraisals within agreed timelines.
- Succession Planning - Identifying and developing individuals for the next level with IDP and supporting bottom-quartile colleagues with Performance Improvement Plans.
- Coaching and developing team members by spending adequate time with them.
- Managing attrition according to company standards, with a strong Early Warning system (EWS) to detect early and accurately.
- Developing effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and participating in meetings.
- Embedding a continuous improvement culture by motivating teams to drive process improvements.
- Participating in central projects and delivering according to agreed objectives.
The ideal candidate should possess:
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- Organizational and time-management skills.
- Knowledge of the Reinsurance Broking business and related terminologies.
- In-depth knowledge of performance metrics.
- Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks/projects during peak volume periods.
- Collaborative mindset across levels and teams.
- Good command over MS Office applications (MS-Excel, MS-Word).
- Graduate (Commerce preferable).
- At least 10 years of experience in Reinsurance broking in the operations area.
- Technical expertise in XOL, Facultative, and Proportional Treaty business.

- Be able to multi-task and prioritize time effectively.
- Possess CII Certification.
- Have past experience leading a team of 10-15 members.
- Have proven Reinsurance domain knowledge.
- Display excellent Team Management Skills.
