DERMS Consultant

This role involves providing technical and industry knowledge in Utility Operational Technologies (OT) with a focus on Distributed Energy Management Systems (DERMS), Demand Response Management Systems (DRMS), Electric Distribution Outage Management Systems (OMS), Advance Distribution Management Systems (ADMS) and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems.

Job Overview

We are seeking a DERMS Consultant to provide technical and industry expertise in Utility Operational Technologies (OT). The successful candidate will work closely with clients to understand their specific applications, approaches, and methodologies in Electric Distribution Operational systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide functional and technical expertise in various aspects of DERMS/DRMS implementations such as solution architecture, initial system design, requirements and gap analysis, and system implementation support.
  • Work on DERMS system business requirements definition, request for proposal development, and product vendor evaluation.
  • Consulting & execution of engagements to assist electric utilities with management of DERMS and ADMS system planning, long-term roadmap, implementation, testing, and operation.
  • Responsible for evaluation of potential new OT system vendors and the development of partnerships with key vendors.
  • Support solution design, documentation, planning, implementation, vendor management, testing, and acceptance.

Required Skills:

  • Good understanding of DEMRS system functionalities including Registration & Grouping, Load Forecasting, Demand Management, Optimization, DER Scheduling & Dispatch, DER Operating Envelope, Network Congestion Management.
  • Relevant utility experience to engage with client utilities to understand their specific applications, approaches, and methodologies in Electric Distribution Operational systems.
  • Experience on DERMS implementation on-Prem or on Cloud (Azure/AWS).
  • Hands-on experience on OEM ADMS & OMS systems from ABB / Oracle NMS / GE / Schneider / Siemens.
  • Knowledge on ADMS functionalities of Fault Management through FLISR/FDIR, Feeder Reconfiguration, Load-shed, Voltage VAR control, Distribution Load flow.
  • Programming skills in languages like Python, Java, .Net and database management using SQL, MySQL.
  • Proven knowledge of hardware, software, and architecture including market trends and consulting-level experience.
  • Understanding of GIS (Smallworld, ESRI) & Smart AMI metering.
  • Experienced resource from Electric Utilities and/or Consulting Entities servicing this area will be preferred.
  • IT/OT and security standards (e.g., NERC CIP).
  • Expertise in developing requirements, testing, acceptance, and transition.
  • Knowledge of current standards and regulations governing power systems.

Industry Knowledge Capability:

  • Good understanding of electric utility distribution planning, engineering, and operations.
  • Understanding of electricity distributed generation, energy storage, and controls associated with each.
  • Utilize specialized utility system design and planning knowledge to produce moderately complex work products and solutions across engagements or multiple phases of a more complex engagement.
  • Assess effectiveness of client's use of tools, applications, processes to adapt to new OT applications for solution areas such as DERMS/DRMS/ADMS/OMS/SCADA.
  • Apply appropriate methods or recognized equivalent to identified client needs.
  • Anticipate and resolve technical problems with occasional technical assistance from others.
