Amber is a leading student housing platform with over 1M+ student housing units listed globally. We are growing rapidly and targeting new business opportunities.

About the Role:

We seek an experienced technical leader to join our engineering team. In this critical role, you will lead and mentor talented engineers, drive technical direction for backend systems, and ensure successful delivery of high-quality software solutions.

You will work closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to translate business requirements into robust technical solutions.

Responsibilities:
  • Technical Leadership: Own system architecture and design, ensuring scalability, performance, maintainability, and security.
  • Hands-on in Ruby, Python, SQL, NoSQL, and event-based systems is a must. The individual should be excited to build highly scalable complex distributed systems.
  • Mentor and guide engineers on technical best practices, problem-solving, and career development.
  • Foster innovation and continuous learning within the team.
  • Product Development: Collaborate closely with Product Managers to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Evaluate the technical feasibility and impact of product features.
  • Contribute to the definition and refinement of product roadmaps.
  • Team Management: Lead and motivate a high-performing team of engineers.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide constructive feedback, and guide the engineering team's career growth.
  • Develop proactive ownership culture.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive team environment.
  • System Operations: Monitor system performance and identify resolve issues proactively.
  • Implement and maintain robust monitoring and alerting systems.
  • Automate processes to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Innovation: Explore emerging technologies and their potential application to products.
  • Drive AI/ML solution adoption to enhance product features and improve business outcomes.
Qualifications:
  • Required:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • At least 4 years of professional experience in software engineering, with a strong focus on backend development.
  • Proficiency in Ruby is a must, React is beneficial.
  • At least 1 year of experience leading and mentoring engineering teams.
  • Proven experience designing, developing, and deploying scalable and high-performance backend systems.
  • Proficiency in at least one backend programming language, preferably Python.
  • Experience with cloud platforms and containerisation technologies.
  • Understanding of DevOps principles and experience with CI/CD pipelines and automation tools.
  • Good communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Mindset of Continuous Improvement.
  • Proactive approach to achieving business goals.
