As a Climate Adaptation Specialist, you will play a key role in helping governments and organizations develop effective strategies to adapt to the impacts of climate change.

  • You will work with clients to integrate climate adaptation priorities into national frameworks, ensuring alignment with international agreements and development goals.
  • Conducting climate vulnerability and risk assessments across sectors such as agriculture, water, health, biodiversity, and coastal ecosystems will be an essential part of your job.
  • You will apply climate models and analytics to inform strategic planning and prioritization of adaptation responses.
  • Identifying and sizing adaptation measures with clear outcomes, timelines, and cost estimates will be crucial for success.
  • Evaluating techno-commercial feasibility of proposed interventions and mapping financing sources will also be an important task.
  • Supporting funding proposal preparation for climate adaptation, including mechanisms targeting international organizations, will be another key responsibility.
  • Facilitating inclusive stakeholder consultations, engaging government agencies, civil society, youth, women, and vulnerable groups, will help ensure that adaptation strategies are effective and sustainable.
  • Aligning adaptation strategies with Sustainable Development Goals and national development plans will be critical for achieving lasting impact.
  • Designing Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification systems in line with Enhanced Transparency Framework requirements will also be an important aspect of your job.
  • Drafting technical content for reports, presentations, and policy briefs tailored to diverse audiences will require strong communication skills.
  • Providing recommendations strengthening climate resilience and adaptation integration will be a key deliverable.
  • Collaborating with public and private sector stakeholders for implementation and resource mobilization will be essential for success.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • You should have an advanced degree in climate science, environmental studies, sustainable development, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in climate adaptation, resilience planning, or related fields is required.
  • Experience developing or updating Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), Long-Term Low Emission Development Strategies (LT-LEDS), or National Adaptation Plans (NAPs) is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in conducting vulnerability and risk assessments is essential.
  • Experience working with climate models and interpreting risk projections is also required.
  • Strong grasp of techno-commercial analysis and financing pathways is necessary for success.
  • Familiarity with climate finance mechanisms and international donor programs is also desirable.
  • Effective communication, analytical thinking, and facilitation skills are essential for this role.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience supporting national governments in climate strategy development would be highly valued.
  • A background in climate consulting or advisory roles would also be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of ecosystem-based adaptation approaches and nature-based solutions would be an asset.
  • The ability to integrate gender and social inclusion into adaptation planning would be highly desirable.
