Backend Software Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Backend Software Engineer to take ownership of designing and managing the backend architecture for a scalable web/mobile application.

  • The ideal candidate will have expertise with Node.js, Firebase, and MongoDB.

This role demands strong problem-solving skills, experience in building scalable real-time chat or messaging systems, and a solid understanding of security practices.

  • Key responsibilities include:
    • Owning the entire backend architecture for a scalable app, from planning to deployment.
    • Developing user authentication and authorization using industry best practices (JWT, OTP-based login, session management).
    • Implementing logic, user discovery algorithms, preference-based filters.
    • Building a chat and messaging system with Firebase for real-time messaging, delivery/read receipts.
    • Integrating Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) for push notifications (iOS + Android).
    • Designing and managing a MongoDB schema optimized for high-performance matchmaking and chat use cases.
    • Ensuring secure, tokenized API access using HTTPS and role-based access controls.
    • Handling media uploads securely via cloud storage (e.g., Firebase, AWS S3).
    • Implementing analytics hooks for key user actions and behavior tracking.
    • Building admin APIs for user moderation, reporting, and flagging systems.
    • Monitoring and maintaining API performance, database health, error logs, and uptime metrics.
    • Collaborating with DevOps to set up CI/CD, monitoring, and auto-scaling backend infrastructure.
    • Managing environment configurations securely with secrets handling.
    • Building fallback systems to handle network failure, retries, and message queueing if needed.
    • Writing clean, modular, and testable code with unit/integration tests for critical backend logic.
    • Communicating and documenting API contracts clearly for frontend consumption.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years' experience in backend development with Node.js, Firebase, and MongoDB.
  • Strong understanding of token-based authentication and security practices.
  • Experience building scalable, real-time chat or messaging systems.
  • Familiarity with cloud storage and services (Firebase, AWS S3).
  • Solid knowledge of CI/CD, monitoring, and application scaling.
  • Clear communication skills for technical documentation and cross-functional collaboration.
