Job Overview:

The Optometrist is responsible for providing comprehensive eye care services to patients, including conducting vision tests, prescribing glasses, and performing ophthalmic investigations. This role involves working closely with optometry students, training them on clinical skills and patient management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Taking thorough patient histories, including systemic and ocular assessments, to inform treatment plans.
  • Conducting routine and advanced vision testing, including refraction, to determine the most suitable corrective lenses for patients.
  • Prescribing glasses under the supervision of a consultant optometrist or ophthalmologist, taking into account individual patient needs and medical history.
  • Performing biometry and other ophthalmic investigations, such as OCT, FFA, Fundus Photo, and LASER, to diagnose and monitor eye conditions.
  • Assisting in LASIK operating theatre and premium IOL/LASIK workups, ensuring seamless coordination between teams.
  • Training optometry students on clinical procedures and patient management techniques, promoting best practices within the healthcare industry.
  • Maintaining accurate data entry in hospital management information systems (HMIS) and ensuring proper machine maintenance to ensure smooth operations.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in Optometry from an accredited institution.
  • A minimum of 2 years' experience in the field, preferably in a hospital setting.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, enabling effective collaboration with patients, colleagues, and supervisors.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities, prioritize tasks efficiently, and maintain attention to detail in fast-paced environments.
  • Flexibility to work across different locations, including base hospitals, secondary centers, and vision centers, adapting to changing circumstances and demands.
