Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the design, coordination, and implementation of plumbing, heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), and firefighting systems for various projects.

This role requires expertise in designing and developing system layouts, including pipe sizing and equipment selection. The ideal candidate will have knowledge of International Plumbing design codes, Revit, and BIM environments.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plumbing System Design:
    • Design appropriate plumbing systems for the project, including domestic water, sanitary, storm water, hot water, gas systems, etc.
    • Perform calculations as directed by senior engineer.
    • Develop plumbing system layouts, including pipe sizing and equipment selection.
    • Knowledge of International Plumbing design codes.
    • Knowledge of Revit and ability to work in BIM environment.
    • Coordinate with other disciplines to develop designs.
  • HVAC System Design:
    • Conduct heat load calculations using tools like HAP to determine heating and cooling requirements for buildings.
    • Design HVAC systems, including water-cooled and air-cooled chiller plants, Variable Refrigerant flow (VRF) systems, Direct Expansion (DX) systems, etc.
    • Select equipment based on project specifications.
    • Calculate ventilation requirements, pressurization needs, smoke management systems, pump head calculations, external static pressure, and size ducts and pipes.
    • Select air distribution components, such as VAV boxes, grilles, diffuser, louvers, etc.
    • Coordinate HVAC designs with other disciplines.
    • Apply knowledge of international codes and standards, such as ASHRAE, AHRI, CIBSE, HTM, ASPE, etc., in HVAC system design.
    • Plan and design various HVAC systems considering energy efficiency, sustainability, and indoor air quality.
    • Proficiency in Building Information Modelling (BIM) tools, like Navisworks and BIM Collaboration (BIM 360).
    • Prepare design reports, specifications, take-off sheets, and bill of quantities (BOQ) for HVAC systems.
  • Firefighting Systems Design:
    • Design fire protection systems, including sprinkler systems, fire pumps, and hydrants, according to national and international codes, such as NFPA, British Standards, and local regulations.
    • Perform hydraulic calculations for sprinkler systems, ensuring proper coverage and compliance with safety standards.
    • Design and layout fire detection and alarm systems, ensuring integration with other building services.
    • Review fire protection system submittals and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
    • Coordinate with fire protection authorities and building inspectors for approval and compliance checks.
