Job Overview

Lady Andal House of Children is a special school in Chennai that provides education and vocational training for children and adults with disabilities. Our mission is to make a meaningful difference in the lives of individuals with special needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Teach Music Classes: Design and implement music lessons that accommodate varying learning styles and abilities, including students with autism, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or emotional/behavioural challenges.
  • Use Adaptive Techniques: Utilise assistive technologies, visual aids, instruments, and alternative communication methods to support student participation.
  • Encourage Expression and Communication: Promote music as a means of self-expression, communication, and emotional regulation.
  • Therapeutic Integration: Collaborate with occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities.
  • Assessment and Reporting: Assess student progress using tailored benchmarks; maintain accurate records and contribute to IEPs (Individualised Education Programs).
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging classroom environment; manage behaviour sensitively in line with the school's positive behaviour support policies.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Carnatic/Hindustani Music or Certificate course in Music Therapy (preferred)
  • Experience: 3-7 years of working with children in a mainstream school/special school
  • Qualifications: Teaching qualification or experience in special education (Preferred)
  • Skills: Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive music education; ability to play an instrument and facilitate group music singing; knowledge of Tamil language and culture
