Control Systems Engineer

As a member of our Manufacturing, Technology and Engineering division, you'll have the opportunity to work on diverse projects that span multiple industries and technologies. Your expertise in process control, electrical and control diagram design, and automation components will be invaluable in helping us develop and implement innovative manufacturing solutions.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
- Designing, developing, and implementing process controls solutions for Engineering and Manufacturing processes.
- Evaluating existing control strategies and proposing enhancements.
- Optimizing or retrofitting existing processes through modern control strategies such as optimal control, robust control, adaptive control, or model predictive control.
- Working closely with manufacturing to define appropriate controls hardware platforms/systems for implementing process control solutions.
- Developing PLC/HMI/I&C construction documents including P&IDs, network architecture diagrams, control panel layouts and wiring diagrams, installation details, loop drawings, and technical specifications.
- Developing and applying process controls skills to implement solutions in PLC/DCS environments.
- Implementing, testing, and troubleshooting developed process control strategies.
- Developing in-depth knowledge of existing processes to identify process control optimization opportunities and write proposals to initiate control projects.
- Working with process subject matter experts and applying process data analysis skills to gain fundamental understanding of manufacturing processes.
- Working closely with experienced professionals in multi-disciplined teams to design, develop, and implement solutions for manufacturing processes.
- Utilizing statistical analysis to design for process capability.
- Leading projects and working in a multi-disciplined research, development, and engineering environment to identify opportunities for advanced controls.
- Leveraging optimization techniques to improve process performance and efficiency.
- Facilitating the transfer of new process control technologies into manufacturing and providing training to manufacturing and engineering personnel.
- Documenting process control findings in technical reports and generating intellectual property through invention disclosures and patent applications.
Requirements for this role include:
- Experience in practical application of process control, including process data analysis, system modeling/identification, and control loop design and tuning.
- Hands-on experience in PLC/HMI programming, especially Allen Bradley, with experience in other brands such as Mitsubishi, Siemens, or Beckoff a plus.
- Experience in electrical and control diagram design using AutoCAD or EPLAN.
- Experience in automation components such as servo drive, VFD, instrumentation, and etc.
- Familiarity with control systems hardware and software integration system design, understanding of electrical codes and standards, and electrical safety system design and implementation.
- Familiarity with industrial communication protocols such as Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, Modbus, and OPC interface.
- Good understanding of Electrical Power Distribution for motors and drives' operability and reliability.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong process-oriented mindset, able to understand process dynamics and design appropriate control schemes.
- Strong verbal and written skills in English, able to prepare and present proposals effectively.
- Functions well on projects and team initiatives as well as independent assignments. Results-oriented individual with a track record of meeting commitments and managing time well.
- Flexibility to adapt to changing environments; be a change agent to help others through change.
Education and experience requirements include:
- Bachelor or Master in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering related majors with heavy coursework focus on Controls, Data Analytics, or Optimization.
- 2-5 years of experience in industry on manufacturing processes. New graduates with related internship experience will be considered.
