Lead Mechanical Design Specialist

The ideal candidate will be responsible for driving the design and development of consumer and industrial electronic products, from concept to production release. This role requires technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and leadership ability to guide a team of engineers.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop comprehensive mechanical designs, including prototyping, validation, tooling, and product launch.
  • Translate customer requirements into innovative product designs with manufacturability in mind.
  • Create detailed CAD models and 2D drawings in SolidWorks, including GD&T and tolerance analysis.
  • Perform calculations, DFMEA, and tolerance analysis for robust product performance.
  • Design products using plastics, sheet metal, die-casting, and machining.
  • Select materials based on performance, regulatory compliance, and cost.
  • Evaluate manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and cost optimization.
  • Utilize 3D printing and rapid prototyping to validate form, fit, and function.
  • Build and test prototypes to identify design gaps early in the cycle.
  • Design thermal management systems for passive cooling, heatsinks, venting, etc.
  • Conduct preliminary structural analysis, drop testing, and reliability considerations.
  • Define and execute test protocols for functional verification.
Team Leadership & Collaboration:
  • Lead and mentor a small team of mechanical engineers, providing technical guidance and design reviews.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with electrical, firmware, quality, sourcing, and manufacturing teams.
  • Work with vendors for prototyping, tooling, and production ramp-up.
  • Review vendor feedback and ensure alignment with quality and performance requirements.
  • Support project planning, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Maintain engineering documentation: BoM, ECNs, ECOs, DHF/Design history, PLM updates.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Technical expertise in mechanical design, engineering, and leadership.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and other CAD software.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
