Job Title

We are seeking an experienced Database Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our database operations group, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing our databases to ensure optimal performance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage and optimize our SQL-based and NoSQL databases.
  • Manage high-transaction rate databases, including configuration, administration, monitoring, security management, performance optimization, replication, troubleshooting, and backup.
  • Install, configure, and upgrade nodes in high-availability customer production clusters.
  • Manage a global 24/7 multi-site production infrastructure powering our services, including deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, performance tuning, and security.
  • Ensure proper monitoring, alerting, capacity planning, and reporting in the production environment.
  • Contribute to the evolving design and architecture of reliable and scalable infrastructure.
  • Collaborate with product engineering teams to ensure operational standards are observed, determine resource impacts for upcoming product deployments, and ensure successful product rollouts.
  • Develop processes, tools, and documentation in support of production operations.

Requirements:

  • 7+ years of relevant experience in designing, maintaining, and administering NoSQL databases (Cassandra, MongoDB) required.
  • 6+ years of relevant experience in designing, maintaining, and administering traditional SQL-based databases (MySQL, MariaDB, Percona) required.
  • Experience managing Kafka message bus infrastructures strongly preferred.
  • Experience automating system and database management using common scripting languages.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with a demonstrated track record of leveraging them to evangelize technical best practices.
  • Experience with monitoring and alerting systems.
  • Experience with industry-standard operational practices such as change management, incident management, and working in public clouds and traditional colocation datacenters.
  • Experience using Puppet, Ansible, Chef, or analogous configuration management systems.
  • BS or MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or related technical discipline, or equivalent experience required.
