About the music program at our special education initiative

We are a renowned institution with a long-standing legacy in education, providing special education and vocational training for children and adults with Cerebral Palsy, Autism, Learning Disabilities, Intellectual Disabilities, and Down Syndrome.

Our goal is to empower learners with multiple disabilities through inclusive education. We have a multidisciplinary team of rehabilitation professionals who offer physiotherapy, speech therapy, and occupational therapy services.

The music teacher will design music lessons that accommodate varying learning styles and abilities, including students with autism, physical disabilities, learning difficulties, or emotional/behavioural challenges.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and Deliver Music Lessons: Utilise assistive technologies, visual aids, instruments, and alternative communication methods to support student participation.
  • Encourage Expression and Communication: Promote music as a means of self-expression, communication, and emotional regulation.
  • Therapeutic Integration: Collaborate with occupational therapists, speech therapists, and other specialists to integrate therapeutic goals into musical activities.
  • Assessment and Reporting: Assess student progress using tailored benchmarks; maintain accurate records and contribute to IEPs (Individualised Education Programs).
  • Classroom Management: Maintain a safe, structured, and encouraging classroom environment; manage behaviour sensitively in line with school policies.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Carnatic/Hindustani Music or related field
  • 3 to 7 years of experience working with children in a mainstream school/ Special school
  • Teaching qualification or experience in special education (Preferred)
  • Experience working with children with special educational needs (Preferred)
  • Knowledge of inclusive teaching strategies and adaptive music education
  • Ability to play an instrument and facilitate group music singing
