About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Technical Designer to join our team at Gensler. As a Technical Designer, you will play a key role in collaborating with our Design Directors and design leadership on a variety of exciting workplace projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design team to create cohesive and rational design solutions that meet project briefs and are technically, legally, and financially responsible.
  • Guide the team to design in alignment with local and national codes.
  • Develop junior designers' skills and contribute to the team effort in producing design projects.
  • Implement approved briefing approaches and solve complex design problems through schematic design and design development.
  • Oversee the preparation of graphic materials for client presentations and research and recommend appropriate systems, materials, and finishes.
  • Present design schemes and documents to clients with the Design Manager and oversee the design development package for production.
  • Work with the Technical Coordinator and technical team to ensure design intent is accurately interpreted in documents.
  • Liaise with clients on design issues with the Design Manager and develop strategic planning, conceptual designs, design development, and production.
  • Perform design assignments that include conceptual design, schematic design, design development, and construction documents.
  • Provide design support for the completion and execution of design projects.
  • Develop space planning concepts and generate program documents.
  • Participate in the selection of palettes and material presentations and generate specifications.
  • Participate in business development efforts and contribute to office activities, initiatives, and learning programs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or master's degree in Architecture.
  • 5-7 years of project experience.
  • Proficiency in creating technical drawings and specifications that succinctly, thoroughly, and accurately describe the work to be done.
  • Proficiency in the use of Revit and other 3D computer design programs.
  • Strong skills in client relationship management and presentation.
  • Motivated self-starter with excellent communication skills and the ability to problem-solve both individually and as part of a project team.
  • Quick learner with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and client relationship management skills.
  • Collaborative and team-conscious.
  • Ability to maintain existing client relationships and build new client relationships through successful project delivery.
  • Strong leadership, organizational, communication, and relationship management skills.
