Medical coding professionals with a focus on same day surgery play a vital role in ensuring accurate and efficient reimbursement for healthcare services.

This position involves reviewing medical records, operative reports, and other documentation to assign appropriate codes for procedures and diagnoses. The ideal candidate will have strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and surgical procedures, as well as proficiency in coding software and electronic health record systems.

The successful Same Day Surgery Coder will be responsible for staying up-to-date on changes in coding standards, regulations, and best practices to maintain compliance and enhance coding accuracy. This may involve attending training sessions, participating in professional organizations, or pursuing continuing education opportunities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review and analyze medical records to ensure accurate coding of procedures and diagnoses
  • Assign ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes for same day surgeries in accordance with coding guidelines and payer requirements
  • Apply facility-specific coding rules and adhere to official coding guidelines
  • Collaborate with clinical staff to clarify documentation when necessary to ensure completeness and accuracy
  • Stay updated on changes in coding standards, regulations, and best practices to maintain compliance and enhance coding accuracy
Required Qualifications:
  • Certification as a CPC (Certified Professional Coder), CCS (Certified Coding Specialist), or similar credential is mandatory
  • Minimum 4 years of experience in medical coding, with specific experience in same day surgery coding preferred
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and surgical procedures
  • Proficient in coding software and electronic health record (EHR) systems
